Very strange phone call

Just now the phone rang and I answered it, at the other end a female voice kept repeating "Please hold the line while i transfer you to an operator, you are not being charged for this call" I became weary of this and put the phone down.

Any idea what this is about?

Do you have caller display or did you 1471 the caller?

Sounds like a cold caller complying with Ofcom's new regulations about silent calls being illegal.

Not quite though if this from Ofcom is to be believed.

CLI allows people to dial 1471 and access the telephone number of the person or organisation calling them.[*]Telephone numbers dialled and then abandoned should not be called again by that organisation’s automated calling system for at least 72 hours, unless a dedicated operator is available to take the call.[/LIST]”
