Bizarre Ipod trouble

My Ipod has been playing up recently and messing up my play counts. A few weeks ago it said I played a certain song 65 times and that sounded about right, then last Friday it said I played that same song 131 times. Getting strange, I thought, so I left it for a while and checked a couple of days later. it said 236 for my play count of that song. I checked again and it said 522. Even stranger I thought. Then yesterday I looked and it said 1057!? I know that's not true at all. What's my Ipod playing at?
On Monday afternoon I was listening to a song on it (walking in the rain I might add) and it started playing other random songs in the middle of it!
What should I do? Take it back to the shop? Go to an Apple Store with it?

Something is certainly up. Is it only doing it to one particular song? If so it could well be the MP3 is corrupted. But on the other hand if it is messing up more than one song I would be inclined to take back to Apple and let the genius people have a look at it.
It might be just that the firmware has gone haywire which shouldn't be took difficult to do, just resort back to factory settings and then reinstall the latest firmware, the downside is you lose all your play counts and playlists.

I don't really know, I think it might be, I'll have to check it. The song was downloaded from Itunes so should be ok, and was alright on my older Ipod. The Ipod in question is a 16GB Ipod Touch, bought last year, only started using in September, and the software was updated a couple of weeks ago. If I have a free moment I might go to the Apple store in town and see if they can fix it.
