I'm not criticising the OP, just pointing out that someone having a go at Joe and yet is a fan of Austin, who was basically the same type of bland, inoffensive singer, is strange....

I think he has gained a lot of supporters in the Danyl backlash. Danyl is criticised for being out of tune and not being able to hold a steady note and a bad singer (yes, I know) and his personality for being cocky and arrogant. Well Joe sings in tune, barely falters from the melody, can sing, and appears neither cocky nor arrogant. On paper, you can't argue with that.
But along with that comes dull, samey, forgettable performances. If he wins, he will fade into the background quicker than any other winner so far. |

Really like joe - got really nice voice and looks v good - needs to be given some more contempary songs - only decent singer left although at moment cannot see him (or anyone) having long term chart success

who this year d'ya think is better than austin??
you must admit that no one this year can cry so much for no reason like austin did I just don't buy this whole 'last year was so much better than this year' arguement, Daniel was still in the competition this time last year and Eoghan went on to make the final 3.... The only 3 I rated last year were Alexandra, JLS and Diana.... |

Pretty much everyone that's left apart from Lloyd and Jedward, plus Lucie and Rachel.

I think Week 5 this year was better than Week 5 last year, but Week 3 this year was shocking compared to last year. But we can't fairly compare the series until nearer the end when they've all had a chance to shine. At the moment, I think Olly is going to win. But I do think that Joe has it in him to do a "Listen" and go on and win it. |

I agree. This year is overall more talented than last year, imo. But none of the acts this year really stand out as recording artists... Last year there was a handful of REALLY good people who could be recording artists.

I agree with this. I think people see this year as worse because no one is Alexandra league, but saying that, Alexandra wasn't Alexandra league until a good few weeks in.
Any of this year's lot could do the same. |

There's still time for any of the remaining acts to show a similar improvement (with one or two notable exceptions)... |

Hi everyone, new to the forum but a constant lurker. Just have to say, Joe has been my favourite since the audtion stages. He has a fantastic voice and I think that he could sing anything and make it sound good. Unfortunately the song choices this year have been awful for everyone, not just Joe. It seems to me that Cheryl is too busy thinking about her own solo career to bother mentoring and choosing suitable songs for her acts. I was listening to a cd I made up from the year Leona won. She was given stunning songs that really showed the power in her voice but this year the song choices have been shocking.
There are so many fantastic songs out there which I'm sure they have access to but they are just not getting them. I don't know why they haven't thought of giving Jamie an INXS song as his voice is very similar to Michael Hutchence (would have loved him to do "Never Tear us Apart" in Rock Week or Lenny Kravitz he could easily pull off). His version of "Hurt" has been one of my favourites this year but since then it's been disappointing. Joe, although he was perfect on "Circle of Life", just didn't shine not because he wasn't good but because it's a crap song choice. Of all the movie tracks they could have chosen, this was dire. He needs to be given a powerful ballad to show off his amazing voice, give him the support that Leona obviously got with her song choices. I'm not saying he has the same voice as Leona but it is just as powerful and he can handle it. Remember as well, he's only young and there is only so much personality can shine through in the 3 minutes he has on stage so give him a chance. I think he comes across as a lovely boy and I certainly don't think he is boring, he's just not been given the opportunity to show his personality as others have. I would love him to win as he is far ahead of everyone in this competition as far as talent is concerned. Olly is a good entertainer but is limited in what he can perform, Danyl I just don't like at all, personality or voice and I would have liked to see what reaction he would have got in the first audition if he didn't have all the backing tracks to assist his performance. Jamie I loved at the beginning but the song choices have been awful since then bar "Hurt". Stacy I loved at the beginning also but she hasn't impressed me since then. Lloyd has been given bad song choices, he's more of a James Morrison performer, needs more songs like that. John and Edward, well, not much I can say about their "talent" not already said here before. Didn't like them at the beginning when they sang over the other girls at the auditions but they have made me laugh in the lives, just because of the sheer awfulness of their performances. They definitely have a career ahead of them in tv, most definitely, but not singing. Anyway, just my opinion, I'm sure not all will agree with me. |

Joe is lovely, sings well and is working his way slowly through the competition with no fuss. That for me, is why I like him. The mob mentality towards the twins makes me ashamed to be a member of the human race, the stuff that happened with Danyl made me mad as hell, trying to bring a man down because he is perceived as " cocky", now there is a bit of a backlash starting against Jamie because people have run out of horrible things to say about the above 2, Stacey its all about her "personality" and Lloyd is just plain bland, although not as bad as some would have it.
Olly will probably win, although I want Danyl to. But Joe is in with a shot, by simply being a good singer and someone who has nothing really to be said against him. Thats my take on it. Still highly enjoyable though! |

He's amongst the favourites because he's assured on stage and has a very, very pure voice - probably the best in the competition. That said, I'd prefer him to take the West End/Broadway route. I don't think he has any kind of edge or differentiation for the pop market.
Mind you, he might get to No 1 on dimples alone. |

I don't think he's boring. He and the twins are the only acts that I feel excited about watching this year. I guess everyone has their own ideas of what constitutes boring and we're not all going to like the same people.

The only way he can redeem himself from the pit of bland mediocrity he's so expertly carved for himself is so sing 'Hey Joe' by Hendrix and burn down half the stage in its climax. Bonus points for orgasming at the same time.
Until that happens, he should stick with Disney musicals and appealing to senile pensioners and people who go 'craaaaaazy' at office xmas parties. |

What is the "x-factor"? It's whatever Simon Cowell deems it to be at any given time, thats the truth of it. |

Another thing, wish I was a gamber, way back from Pop Idol right through to every series of X Factor I have got the winner right in every single one of them, that's from early to mid stages, not just knowing who the final 2 were. |

I get what people say about Joe, but he is very, very good and I like him. He looks happy to be there but without looking desperate. I also loved on the VT with his family that his gran was doing that fab "gran dancing" while he was singing.
I hope he goes on to do well whether it is out of the X-Factor or hopefully in the West End, if he can act as well as sing.

maybe he's favorite because he can actually sing really well... listen to his voice...
this should be about finding a great singer... unfortunately, it's become" "let's see who can either 1. make monkey faces and hold a bad note really long 2. rip shirt on stage to look "hot" 3. pretend you're a rock god 4. do a "aww fanks my name's stacey" (for the record i like her a lot!) fact is: Joe has a beautiful voice, and given that there is no star in the competition like Leona or Alexandra --- the best singer deserves to win ![]() 2. Jamie's shirt isn't ripped, it's just stretched ![]() 3. Yeah, Lloyd wasn't fooling me either ![]() 4. Indeed, Rachel was bang out of order ![]()

Great he can hit notes fine - but that is never what singing was meant to be about, just a horrid modern interpretation that whoever has the best range has the best voice.
Singing should be about emotion and meaning, a lot of which comes through in skills like phrasing where you can put your own intention in the words. Joe can hit notes but he has no depth to his voice. |
