Who cares if they are good dancers or not?
Am I the only 1 who votes on personality than dancing? This is just a bit of Saturday night entertainment for charity. For example, Ricky Whittle and Ali- good dancers but a fruit basket has more personality than either of them thus I find them dancing boring and not enjoyable. I vote for Natalie usually because she is fun and Chris because he seems a top bloke. I couldn't give 2 figs about how good they dance. This isn't a proper dancing competition. Its light fluff.

I vote for which couple I feel most affection for and feel most entertained by.
Sometimes they also happen to be the better dancer, but not always. |

Ideally for me, the best dancers and the ones who make me smile/move me etc, are one and the same.
However, if it comes to a choice than personality will always win out for me in the end.

It is a combination of factors in which dancing takes first place.

I watch the show mainly for the dancing, so for me, the ability to dance is more important, but personality is a factor as well, of course. Alas, still waiting for the "wow" dance this year...sigh.

I watch mainly for the dancing and to see how people progress throughout the series. With the exception of the final I do vote on who I like but, in the final (with the exception of Darren Gough) I vote for whoever I think is best on the night.

Sometimes they also happen to be the better dancer, but not always. always, who will you choose to dance with up close and personal?Technical improvement on how to handle bodyweight and limbs and Len's heel leads, and intriguing insights into music, body language and movement, these are of great interest to the practising dancer or musician, but perhaps less so to the armchair viewer who chiefly picks up on the feelgood factor. Without a partner there is no dance. Competition dance partners regularly split up and the best way to hang onto a good dance partner is to marry him or her .

I`d dislike a final with big personalities and not much dance ability
![]() Hearing a "catch phrase" continually throughout the series and then on the night of the final, isn't the same as watching a fantastic routine again.

I like Chris Hollins more than Ricky Whittle but if Chris Hollins won and Ricky Whittle didn't I'd be a bit miffed.
In fact I don't actually like any of the boys in Strictly, but then I never really have. I always like good dancers, they might not always be the best dancers but people like Ricky Groves and Phil Tufnel "GET ON MY WICK" LAILA & ANTON TO WIN. |

If ther is a line with personality at one end and dance ability at the other then I definately tend to favour the bit nearer dancing ability.
No personality = might as well just be watching proper dance competitions. Nothing but personality = I don't want to watch |

Nothing but personality = I don't want to watch A series with Ricky W, Ali, Rachel Stevens etc would have pleased the dance pursits but would have been a snooze fest. The ones that win have a good mix of both personality and ability - Alesha, Tom, Ramps etc. |

You get so much of their musings and ponderings that they have to have a modicum of personality. The dances only last 90 seconds!
Chris Holllns to win. Or Jade. |

I said it last year and again this: it's time to get rid of the dancing and just have a straight off personality contest. The dancing means very little these days

Its impossible to know anything much about personality from a few edited VTs - all there essentially is to see are basic impressions which are preconditioned and themes invented by some producer in search of a story. ITT viewers get to see more but even there someone decides what the VT's show and some messages win through with no basis and others which seem undeniable are not registered by many viewers.
If it was a personality contest you wouldn't need anything more than one show with a few VTs. They could be interviewed, their grans could say how likeable they were, the males would strip to the waist and everyone could tell a joke . Most of the personality arguments run contrary to what little evidence there is or apply to everyone. Almost everyone is trying hard, almost everyone is nice, everyone wants to stay, most people have a strong relationship with their partner, almost everyone is funny at times. When there are positive personality arguments like trying extra hard or working through pain or really developing as a dancer these often are spun as negatives or ignored. Its also often missed that moving from very good to excellent is a bigger journey often than moving from weak to mediocre. The BBC can't run pointless popularity competitions that are meant to be and disguised as dancing shows - the charter wouldn't allow it to run another variant of I'm a Celebrity or a celebrity version of Playdate or Blind Date . The show has to be unique and about learning some skill. You can have a final choice of whether you want a very good dancer who grew into that, or a better dancer who started like that or a strong performer whose footwork isn't quite as good - but they all have to be credible as being among the best dancers or the show would be essentially revealed as a beauty pageant and taken off air soon afterwards. |

Dancing always. I never assume the manicured personas presented in tv soundbites bear much resemblance to the real personality.

I'd find it a rather irritating show to watch if I didn't care about dancing ability...given that, in general, the better dancers dominate the competition (and rightly so).
For me, the soap part of the show is simply a useful tie-breaker for the elite 3 or 4 couples. |

Plenty of people care if they're good dancers or not. Plenty of people care if they're entertaining or not.
There is, however, a middle ground which is what, I think, most people look for. Someone that is capable of both. A conversation in another topic has one of the best examples: Louisa Lytton. She was both entertaining and had the dance ability. Same with Alesha in series 5. Sadly, in the last few series, we've had very few celebs with a likable personality and the ability to dance, which sort of makes people feel forced to choose which they would rather see: Entertainment vs Technicality. Like a few others said, we see very little of the celebs on a whole. Even on ITT, they have very short interviews because it's time consumed. I think that's why so many would love hour long ITT's. Still not great, but it would be so much better. It's an unusual one for me. Last series, I could see Rachel as tecnically great, but the lack of personality I saw stopped me warming to her, which meant I couldn't be drawn enough to vote. Whereas this series, Ali hasn't got the world most fun personality, but I still find myself supporting her, along with others. People like Jade & Jodie Kidd are the best contestants, IMO. They're rarely the best on a whole, but the imrpove amazingly over the weeks, whilst still maintaining a fun persona that makes people like them. |

Dancing - and people learning how to
I care about the dancing. I wouldn't watch it otherwise. I'm an ex dancer who has taught as well, and who still dances. Of course I care about dance. Many of us here do.
What would be the point of bringing in all those pros in to teach if their 'pupils' just didn't care and never wanted to get any better, and preferred playing up to the camers,. What would be the point? It's a joy watching someone learn to dance and love it. It's fantastic if they discover a latent talent they never knew they had and fall in love with dance. And it's wonderful to be a teacher who can bring that out in someone. |

Its not for charity and why on earth would people not care about the dancing in a programme called Strictly Come DANCING? Its not Striictly Come Journey, or Strictly Come Entertainment.

Just that it's not the be all and end all of the show. It's Saturday night entertainment, not the Olympics. |
