What do you reckon? Is it the latest stunt in a bizarre career? And does anyone care these days?

now he joins Cher and Price in 'retire'

i bet he'll do Live Aid 2 in 2015 and then actually 'retire'

then come out of 'retire' to promo a musical based on all his songs, covered old songs in a 'great american songbook' and then 'retire' or death which ever comes first.

I read that he doesn't want to release CDs because he doesn't need the money so will give music away over the Internet.

Most people actually want to buy CDs so that they can have the whole package not spend hours downloading off the Internet and burning CDs that have no artwork etc....

If he doesn't want to make money then he could still release CDs and just give all his royalties to charity. (He doesn't mind taking your money for his new CD though!)

Funny how he announces this 5 days before his new album is due in the shops.......

If so ..
It's about damn time. I think people only bought his latest single 'Amazing' through past success .. he's past his prime, and his depth.

Everybody says him only releasing music on the internet is good. But does nobody have an issue with him saying he has too much money!

I respect him for saying it.

I think its a good decision, it shows his charitable side (anyone remember when he used to give like £100,000 to help a london child on capital fm every year).

Atleast he's not greedy and doesn't want more money!

I heard that apparently he said on Parkinson that he wasn't retiring, and that the story was made up.

This is all according to my hairdresser who was at the show's recording...

Well, giving the proceeds of his online sales to charity is, of course, I fine gesture. But I kinda wonder if it's also a case that, if he didn't release music this way, he'd have to endure the charts. So perhaps one other motive is, that he doesn't have to endure the potiental indignity of slowly getting poorer and poorer positions with each new release.

This way he gets to avoid the "has been" tag, to an extent, by hiding his sales figures.
