I didn't see the need for Ronnie Corbit. However my fear is if Tess takes it on then they will get Vernon tojoin her and that would be the end of the show

Does it really matter if it's a man and woman presenting though? Three of the four judges are men, plus half the celebrity partners and half the professional dancers.
Tess was way better in the presenting role (all autocue) than she is with the ad lib interviewing. Bit awkward at times but better than Brucie in his doteage and the wonderful Claudia was the best thing about a dreary show.
I thought Tess did good. I certainly didn't miss Brucie. I loved Claudia backstage. Ronnie Corbett was superfluous.
Anyone else think the BBC phoned up Claudia and got her to fill then, then Brucie phoned up the BBC and said "I've got my mate Ronnie to do it" and they went "Em... ok then"

I think that's what really happened, and it goes to show the BBC need to stop asking these over paid stars to take over.

I was kinda hoping that Claudia and and Tess would have came down the stairs at the beginning and make out. Damn! A guy can dream.
What this show does proof though is we don't need Bruce and is horribly outdated jokes. Would love Graham Norton to do it but his humour might be a little to adult for the older generation that watch this show.

Oh no. I like Graham, but he already does so many shows as it is, he really shouldn't do another one. It would be too much.
Pretty much as I anticipated, Tess was much better in the presenting role where she is scripted and indeed the whole show worked much better without Bruce's 'jokes'. Having Ronnie Corbett around made things a bit messy. I can see what they were trying to do but what they really needed to do was change the format of the opening of the show.
Claudia was better than Tess in the backstage role (unsurprisingly) but her slightly manic and flippant style didn't quite work in the context of the show for me. Basically Claudia isn't very good standing up.

Claudia and Tess were great, didn't miss Bruce at all. Claudia is much better than Tess in that role and Tess was better tonight than normal
I am actually in love with Claudia, she's absolutely perfect for the backstage bit. Much better than Tess and I would be more than happy to see her do the role more.
On the absence of Bruce. Not missed at all, Tess did a good job and I'd be happy to see her do it on a permanent basis.

I really enjoyed tonights show. It worked with out Bruce and Ronnie Corbett was great. Well done Tess for holding the whole show together especially when Leila could not finish her dance, she was great.
If and when Bruce does retire (hopefully at the end of this series), Ronnie Corbett with his gentle humour and Tess make a pretty good partnership and Claudia was brilliant in the Tesspit.

Tess did a reasonably competent but bland job. I think it showed the skill of Bruce and that holding a live show together isn't as easy as it looks.
Claudia was wonderful. She should do that job every week. She seems to like the couples so much more than Tess does somehow! (Not that I'm saying Tess is horrible to them, it's just Claudia put out more warmth).

I think Tess did a good job. Slightly nervous, and looked about to cry on occasions, but she did hold it togethr well. Ronnie Corbett I'm afraid was pretty pointless. Thankfully we didn't have to endure him apart from the opening. I like the guy, but he was not right for this show. Claudia - well, brilliant but barking.
I sort-of missed Bruce. He does hold it together brilliantly, and I think tonight has shown that it will be more difficult to replace him than we think it will be. I'm not suggesting that the lead presenter has to be a heavyweight male, but the respect he commands allows him to calm the audience down when he needs to talk. I couldn't hear what Tess was saying some of the time because the audience wouldn't allow her to be heard. Maybe given a little more time she'd be better at it than tonight, but it was a good effort on her behalf!

I say this as someone who can't bloody stand Tess sodding Daly usually. Watching her is the equivalent of watching a really bad presentation at work - you feel for them at the same time as wanting it all to end.

Claudia was BRILLIANT. She just has a warmth about her and seems so much more at ease with the celebs than Tess does. Maybe it's because she sees them more through ITT than Tess, who probably only sees them on the Saturday, but she just works so much better in the backstage roll.

La Winkleman stole the show tonight for me,and everyone of the contestants seemed SO pleased to see her too!!

Agreed. I suppose it helps when you have been used to being surrounded by celebrities all your life, but Claudia was great tonight, as she invariably is on ITT.
That's the first Strictly I've enjoyed for what it was since the series began. Tess worked the front of house perfectly - warm support for the couple in front of the judges, but letting them criticise without blasting them or sickly 'you're my favourite' comments.
Claudia was terrific backstage, having a laugh and relaxing the couples.
Less said about Ronnie's role the better.
Both were professional, both made the show flow brilliantly - Strictly have stumbled across the route to go in the future. Let's hope they take it.

I thought the whole show was much better without Bruce. Tess seemed almost a natural with the main presenting duties, and the always utterly adorable Claudia was . . well, adorable.
Things moved much faster and slicker than usual, and was more like DWTS which moves at a fair old pace.
Shame about Ronnie just being there for weak comedy value as he's far better than that, and I thought it was a bit rude of the BBC to use someone of his calibre as a bit of window dressing.
