I don't think they were over marked I think their dances & Ali & Brian have a degree of difficulty that the others do not so even if they make mistakes they are still a higher standard than everyone else
Yes, I agree. Ali and Ricky W are in a stratosphere above everyone else - even the nauseating Jade. They deserve to get recognition for the fact that they just do it all better. Okay they make mistakes but the rest of their dances are just in a different league and the judges acknowledge that and mark them high accordingly.

I think Natalie C's overmarking annoys me more. I can't warm to Ricky but I do at least see he is an excellent dancer. Natalie on the otherhand I just don't get, her dances get these extraordinary marks that others would only get maybe the late 20s for.
Tis weird!
Yep, again I have to agree. And if Craig bangs on about her enthusiasm any more I shall scream. Her simpering gazes to camera in tht vt do my head in. She is an average dancer and I hope she is out next week

Ricky is by far the best of the males but he made numerous mistakes last night, not just one

how can you get a 9 when at least 30% of your routine was out of time??

the same is happening with Ali and Brian although they make fewer mistakes - she hasn't sold one latin performance yet

Natalie C's overmarking is the most inexplicable - I have never enjoyed her dancing and last night's score for what I thought was a fairly pedestrian FT was ridiculous

with Jade almost certainly out and Laila clearly not a contender they are handing this to Team Cola...

I think they are marking him high because the males are so bad this year.
I will probably get slated for this but i cannot take to Ricky W and Natalie C personalities after this show.
They seem so false to me. It is probably just me but they do wind me up the wrong way for some reason.

edit

I have a condition called "blind to Ricky's mistakesitis" but I've watched the Jive again and I can't see the 30% out of time thingy.

He does pause a couple of times looking at his watch but I thought that was part of the choreography narrative - don't be late etc. Natalie has admitted to slowing the routine down 4 times so maybe those breaks were intentional.

Considering he was miles away from Natalie with his back to her for some of the routine, I felt he kept the timing pretty well. For me the routine zinged but phew I'm glad it's out of the way now - Jive can be a game breaker.

there were a number of occasions where he was behind the beat - I thought it was really noticeable

I'm not a ricky hater at all, but I can see why it annoys people

personally I found the overmarking of Zoe more annoying

Ricky W would probably have won this series if he had a different partner - Natalie just doesn't come across as being nice. I had both the Ricky people in the dance off last night even before seeing any dfances - I don't think either partnership has a great deal of public support.

Last night's marking was ridiculous and I'm starting to get a downer on my favourite show. Natalie's 'best dance'? Come on!!

Ricky is the highest scored male performer because he is the best male dancer. Simples.

Mistakes or not - his is the dance I enjoy the most week after week.

Ricky's dance should definitely have been marked lower than Ali's. It was full of mistakes, and although I appreciate that the routine might be difficult, in previous years the idea was clean simple dances rather than overcomplicated messy ones.

Although I quite like Nathalie and Vincent, they were overmarked tonight as well.
I disagree. If the judges don't take "degree of difficulty" into account, what would be the incentive for the professionals to push the celebrities to their limit.
I'm no expert, but to me Ali's routine was just as you describe..clean and simple. I'm sure Ricky W could manage "clean and simple" at this stage..even Phil and Ricky G more or less managed that last night.
The viewers want to see more, so far there has not been one single "show stopping" routine, crowd on their feet clapping etc. The nearest we got was Ricky Groves Paso..but that was more for the shock value than the dancing. Ali is a highly competent dancer, but she appears to stay well within her comfort zone. I want to see the "wow" factor !

When I saw the word farce I thought it was who left. Jade doesn't dance and gets a free pass and leila doesn't even finish. They should have been bottom 2 with Jade going home. It's all the same with these shows, farce, farce, farce.
Wow you're all heart aren't you?

Perhaps you haven't been watching SCD from series 1.

Jade is not the first dancer to get a free pass due to injury - as another poster pointed out Bill Turnbull was also given a bye due to injury.

And to all those claiming that the BBC make up rules on the fly, here the relevant para from that link:

There are a number of contingencies which could occur during or before each show, as with any other live television programme. Contingencies cover withdrawal of any celebrity, professional dancer or judge for health reasons or other unforeseen circumstances or outside the control of the BBC. The remedial actions may include, but not be limited to changing the format of the show, including, removing, substituting or adding professional dancers and or judges; and cancelling, suspending or altering voting at any time. In the event of any contestant leaving the competition at any point prior to the quarter finals, the BBC will decide on whether to reinstate previous contestants i.e. the person with the highest score eliminated from the previous episode or equivalent, or to take other actions in accordance with the BBC's contingency plans as it deems necessary and appropriate to the circumstances.

So the rules allow them to make decisions on the fly, and they could indeed ask Phil and Katya if they want to be reinstated if Jade's injury rules her out of next week. Where one would be able to criticise them would be if they didn't take this decision quickly enough to give P&K enough rehearsal time.

Monday's ITT is definitely required viewing!

I just know that whatever he dances he will get 8 at the lowest, no matter what the mistakes. I find him really boring and don't think he brings any personality to the dance.

I am not surprised to see this thread on these boards as I can see from various polls that Ricky W is very unpopular. Why that is I don't know but I have some theories.

Mistakes or not he (and Ali) still tackle far more complex routines than anyone else and must have some recognition for that surely? Natalie scored just one below Ricky for a very simple routine.

Whether Ricky's personality appeals or not, there is no hiding from the fact that he (and Ali) are better dancers than the rest.
