There's a difference between a serious injury that means you can't continue unless it heals, and pain which you can work your way through, and as an athlete Jade will have been aware of the difference. If it had simply been a twist or a sprain, I'm sure she would have competed, as Laila did. But hearing something going pop, alas, often means something serious, and any knee injury can be career threatening to an explosive athlete. Anyway, fingers crossed she is not too bad, even if she does have to withdraw from Strictly.

Remember the time she said "Long jumping was all I ever wanted to do. It's my top priority" or words to that effect?
It's so obvious how much that career means to her and, although you can see she loves being a part of the show and is a great contender, I'd rather she focused on the one she loves more and has done the longest, than something that, even if she wins/won, would be over by Christmas anyway. She isn't going to be doing SCD forever and once the shows over, they all go back to focusing on their careers. For Jade, that's long jumping. If allowing her to continue her dream as a long jumper means losing her on SCD, then it's a choice I'd be happy for her to take. i'd be gutted if she did drop out, because she was just edging into my top 3 favourites, but I'd get over that. Losing her olympic dreams and risking a career she seems so passionate about would take a lot longer to get over. I hope she does what's right for her. I'll keep everything crossed she can continue with SCD, but I'd more than understand if she decided not to. |

I'll be gutted if that's the last we've seen of Jade
![]() But I respect her decision to pull out, if that's what she's advised to do, given that continuing could jeapordise her sporting career. |

I will be so disappointed if she does have to leave as she & Ian are my favourites by a country mile. But her career comes first, and that's what she has think of. I remember how in her introductory VT she said that serious competition was coming up next year, so she was doing SCD for fun - she's lit up the room for me every week.

I really love Jade and I hope she doesn't leave. I hope she's okay to start her training as well.

In regards to her training next week...maybe they'll ask her to do the Tango so a lack of training wouldn't affect her unduly? That's if she's fit enough next week.
Get well soon, Jade. |

I didn't see the show tonight, but have just got back and logged on to find out all the gossip (I don't mind spoilers, if the knowledge is out there I need to have it!). I am in shock. Jade not dancing again? How awful, I really think they might have made the final. I hope she does, but I doubt anyone expects her to risk her sporting career for a silver glitterball. What a big, big shame.

Although a fan of Jade's from day one, can I get a rerun on her injury and when it became so serious. Anyone care to enlighten me.

It became serious when it happened I'm not sure what you're asking.

It happened at the very end of dress rehearsal, after Ian must have spun her. He tried to help her up and the knee "popped out".
The doctor said there was no way she could dance tonight and she should go straight to hospital. For me that means a ligament damaged. Just hope it's not a cruciate ligament as recovery takes months - and then you need the mental strength to push it to the limit again. |

Hope she is ok, tend to be a bit of an optimist and think if her knee had popped she wouldn't be sitting there in full costume. Hope I'm right love Jade and Ian.

It's the first time there's really been a current athlete on the show, and when Claudia was interviewed her first reaction wasn't not dancing, it was long jumping + she needs her knees for that! If its anything less than 100% there's just no way she'll risk it so it'll be the last we see of her I'm afraid

In the dress rehersal run through a few hours before the show started, Jade and Ian performed their dance, which ended with Jade on the floor (choreographed to end that way I think). Then when Ian lifted her/helped her up., something just wasn't right; presumably a combination of her exact weight balance at that moment, the positioning of her legs and feet, 'how' he lifted her, etc. Something gave way, and from the sound of things she may have dislocated her knee; damaged some ligaments; or something else knee/leg related (not really an expert on sport anatomy I'm afraid). Claudia spoke to Jade and Ian at the start of the showin the Tesspit; they were still dressed for the show, and so Jade presumably hadn't left for the hospital yet. The physios that Strictly have on standby had categorically told Jade that she could not take part in the show tonight. Jade looked absolutely devestated, and when she mentioned her athletics career it seemed clear (to me anyway) that she is seriously worried that this injury could harm her long jumping career. Ian also looked absolutely gutted. And all this happened on the night that Laila was also injured - i think she fell on the stairs in the BBC and sprained her ankle (she danced with one ankle bandaged after the physios told her that it was up to her whether or not she danced; she was clearly in pain though); Bruce was absent with the flu (with Claudia drafted in to help out - Tess did Bruce's job, Claudia did Tess's, and Ronnie Corbett was brought in for a few (thankfully quite spread out) jokes); and Natalie Lowe had to slow her and Ricky W's jive down four times because of an old football injury. Plus Katya's mum travelled the whole way to see her daughter take part on the night her daughter got kicked off. |

Gutted by what happened to Jade. I really want her to win.
I doubt we will see her dance again =( maybe at the final, she can return and dance her tango. But to push herself into a quick recovery and possibly jeopardise her career...well it doesnt bear thinking! Get well soon Jade, and if she has to pull out of Strictly may she win Gold at 2012! |

From the BBC Strictly Site:
Jade Johnson is sitting Week 9 out. During the dress rehearsal on Saturday 14 November, Jade Johnson sustained a serious injury. Under medical advice she cannot dance in the show tonight. In this circumstance, the celebrity is allowed to 'sit out' the show for one week only. The rest of the celebrities will compete as normal. Laila Rouass also sustained an injury to her ankle. She was examined by a doctor who confirmed that although dancing could be painful it would not cause her further medical problems and she could dance tonight. Laila decided she wanted to dance in the show. As nice as it would be if all was well next week, bearing in mind her profession then if its a choice between Strictly and doing more damage or resting up and being able to continue her career then I am sure she will be sensible and bow out, and by doing so she could always enter another year , if they would allow that.
It will be shame if she does go but its not worth ruining her career over. |

Jade was doing so well, had improved so much; I just hope she hasn't done any lasting or longterm damage.

I'm thinking (hoping) that the injury isn't as bad as they first feared based on a few things...
- The fact that Jade was still in the studio and not whisked away immediately after it happened - Ian tweeted "Thank you all so much for your well wishes! Jade is a fighter and if it is humanly possible I'm sure she will be back dancing next week. X" One way or another I just hope that it doesn't threaten her career. |

It struck me that in the VT that she said that when she first felt the pain she was panicking, wondering whether she would be ready to start her long jump training in January. Even in the middle of Strictly, her first thought was about her career, not continuing to dance. I do not blame her for that. It is exactly as it should be for a professional athlete. It does show however that even if her injury is not too severe and has the opportunity to continue, she almost certainly won't continue if doing so would put her career at risk, and sad as it would be to lose her from the show, nor should she.

It sounded like a dislocated knee or ligament damage. If its ligament damage...bye bye Jade from SCD.
It does sound like a dislocation. I dislocated mine at the end of August this year and it is still quite painful and I am still limping. I know Jade will have far better treatment available to her but I still don't see her competing in SCD again. Shame as I wanted her to go all the way

Jade has had problems before with injury and has missed out on major competitions, so speedy recovery.

Much as I love watching Jade I'd rather her get well and be able to compete again.
