Whilst I agree that there was definitely a case for not having the dance-off this week, there are probably a couple of key reasons why they went ahead with it.

Firstly, it was too soon to tell whether Jade is definitely going to be leaving the show so they would want to make sure they have the right number of contestants next week if she does return and eliminate the need for any more playing about with the rules.

Secondly, Jade's injury happened quite late in the show and the dance off and elimination take around 15 minutes or so, which means to not have it would require even more filling on top of filling in the time that would have been devoted to Jade's VT and dance etc. If the show ended early this would have had a knock on effect for the whole of the BBC 1 Saturday night schedule.

Rules mention previous episode although they do just mention it as a guideline, so who knows what they might actually do.

They won't bring anyone back. There would be uproar if they went on to win. What they should do is plan for a two person final and come up with a clever idea - aka no dance off - to cope with another person dropping out. I think no dance off is there only option in that case. Or, I suppose, bringing the final forward a week.

I just hope the presentation of the show is as good as it was yesterday. I won't hold my breath though.

Kez100 - much like X Factor, they know precisely the polling figures, so going into a 3-couple semi-final, say, they'll know Chris is topping vote, so for one they'll ensure he's bottom of leaderboard, and for two they'll order the 2 couples above him in the order that guarantees he will be in the bottom 2, and thus in the dance off, and thus can be kicked off the show.
This is what happened to Gethin when he got knocked out, and it'll likely happen to Chris.

Because of the re-ordering of the scores they cannot do this anymore. Indeed, tying the couple at the top would mean the public would find it easier to save the bottom placed couple due to the points difference between equal first and third being only one.

I see what you're saying although it's completely unsubstantiated . However, I'd say it might be quite difficult to order Ricky W and Ali. Who knows whether one or other of them is consistently above the other?

Obviously if one of them is regularly polling significantly more highly, it would be quite easy to do as you suggested though as the judges have reduced their personal gap between Ali and Ricky W to virtually nothing so it would be quite practical to "arrange" the scores in the semi to give the more popular higher scoring celeb the higher score, thus ensuring that he/she was kept out of the dance off and then using the less popular celeb to knock out the person who was soaring ahead in the vote. However, as I mentioned it's completely unsubstantiated. I just like to examine the practicalities...

I've never seen anyone "sit out" a week from DWTS or any other version of SCD. I have seen people get injured and have to leave though...they usually do away with the elim that night so that there are always three people in the final.

Didn't Kate Garroway have to miss the first dance because she couldn't dance, as she had tendonitis?

Its a big pre xmas event - you can't just put Harry Potter on instead.

They can't even fill with the tour video as its another company and the dancing there might compare too well.

A week without votes is their only way out but that still leaves them with half an hour to fill and ten minutes at the end with nothing in it. lots of grans/aunties and friends on VT may have to be it.

Well, in the past on DWTS they pretended they were going to eliminate someone, and then they just didn't. Or they told you who was in the bottom two, but also said that all the scores and votes would carry over to the next week. Anyway, they figured out a way to keep people watching through the whole results show.

It's a shame that Jade couldn't dance. I really enjoyyed watching her so far. I guess we'll have to miss her this time round.
