I really thought Ali and Brian looked uncomfortable tonight. The judges scores just didn't add up to their comments either.
Are they just the best of a bad bunch? The talent seems sadly lacking this year. |

Ali is a bit like a cross between Lisa and Rachel from last year...good ballroom but questionable Latin and not much of a personality to bring to her dancing.

She has got lovely arms though, as they say.
Brian is like a little puppy dog when he looks at her. |

Unfortunately, she is so much like Rachel last series, that I think that could prove her falldown in the end. Having the dance ability doesn't really mean much in this show if the public don't take to you personally. Although, in Ali's defense, none of them this series have the whole package..... |

I wonder if they practice their dances in the buff?

With Jade potentially out of the contest, I expect the judges to big Ali up even more - just so that Ricky W is seen to have a close rival.
The truth is, Ali's Cha Cha was too careful and contained. It reminded me of Cherie's Latin from last year. How she achieved 9's is beyond me, but then almost everyone was over-marked tonight so it didn't matter in the overall scheme of things. |

It probably was overmarked - but in the context of the other scores I thought it was fair.

Her lack of personality is coming over in the dances. I'll bet the judges keep her in though because of the romance factor... they think it keeps people viewing

Is a dancer with "personality" only someone who does raunchy dancing? I think that Ali's self-composed and modest personality is very attractive. And she is an good dancer too. imo. |

I like Ali but I wish she would given her latin more welly
Len is right saying it's all a bit balletic - she always looks poised and her arms/back are fantastic but you have have more rounded ability to win this show I think |

Ali is a very balletic dancer (that's where she got her arms and extensions from I don't doubt) but she has never mastered Latin. She just doesn't have what it takes. She is too dull to be sexy.
And yes, of course you need a personality to be a good dancer. You have to be able to convey a range of different emotions and take the audience with you. Many actors are quite blank canvases until they are given their character. Many are very shy until they step into another person's persona. Ali may be very sweet but she is actually a bit dull, as is her very proficient but ultimately boring dancing. |

I've always been under the impression (maybe misguided) that dancing is all about losing yourself a little bit. Ali never seems to do that, she's very good, but extremely measured.
That said I'd find it almost impossible to do, there again I'm not an actress or a dancer! |

They really put me off his dances. So in terms of winner, I don't think there is going to be a dancer with all-round ability winning this year. |

I agree with your comment about 'welly' but I still think that Ali is the best female dancer there by a long shot - even in Latin. I think the Latin in general has been a lower standard this year.

I agree that a dancer needs to be able to get "in character" and Ali can't do that for Latin.
I do think she's been done no favours by the costumes and hair/makeup they've put her in, so wishy-washy - and the skirt for last night's cha-cha ruined the view of her leg movements and looked a mess ![]() parthena |

I think Jade will withdraw from the competition which takes out the one person who was good at both. This leaves us with Ali and Ricky W as the 2 best dancers but neither are fault free. Maybe this will one of those years where a not so good dancer with lots of personality will win. |
