Perhaps I'm reading too much into this but there seemed to be a distinct lack of sympathy for Jade from the other dancers (Ricky Whittle/Alesha excluded).

When Ricky sent his best to Jade & Ian, none of the other dancers joined in. If the likes of Zoe had the same injury they all would have been crying their eyes out.

I'm not suggesting that people should have been in floods of tears but there just seemed to be a "meh" quality about the responces to her injury.

Yep, I definately think so. The rules favoured her on this occasion so I guess that was sympathy enough

There is certainly a lack of sympathy from some people on this board. The poor girl's knee popped out, for heaven's sake!!

I agree their reactions were a little muted but, I put it down to tyhe shock. Out of all the competitors she is the one who could lose the most through an injury to her leg/foot and people probably don't know what to say.

Agreed, she has so much more to lose through injury, I hope that it doesn't curtail her in Strictly - as I so wanted her to get to the final - but her athletics career has to come first.

I totally agree. That wasn't an "actress" crying on our screens that was a young woman whose dreams of an Olympic medal are threatened. A doctor told her not to dance, and yet she's getting hammered for it. I despair for this forum at times, where on earth is the compassion?

I don't think people have a lack of sympathy for Jade (though I haven't read a lot of the comments) I think the free pass was the problem and the fact the show has not got a good enough contingency plan when someone is injured.

As I said in another thread the DWTS way of dealing with injuries is fairer that if a competitor can't dance for whatever reason they use their rehersal footage so they can still be part of the vote like everyone else. They would probably have been saved anywhy.

At least the rules allow the celebrity to sit out the show for one week only.

I'm not sure how the other competitors should have responded. There was a distinct sombre mood backstage which i thought was fitting. No point in all of them mentioning it - it would have brought even more of a downer to the show.

Kind of puts it all into perspective though when someones life work, dreams and hopes are threatened!

No there was not a lack of sympathy for Jade, for everyone to mention it would have put a bigger downer on the evening which was alrerady pretty muted with Laila and Bruce as well.

Also it is still a competition and despite feeling sorry for someone the other couples still had to perform to earn their places next week.

I think half the problem was that her injury happened last minute.

I really didn't see any lack of sympathy. Anything more could easily have looked just like attention-seeking or fake. I think they all looked sombre and nervous, which I'd have thought the appropriate reaction.

dont be ridiculous-im sure they all feel for her but have to get on with things like they do everytime someone leaves

On DWTS it happened on the day of the show as well and it has happened at least twice now and more than once a contestant has had to pull out yet there still has never had a two person final


What were they going to do if Laila was in the dance off??? They could hardly of made her dance again either.

They could have scrapped the dance off and went to the public vote.

They just don't seem to be able to make the decisions quick enough and have good plans in place in case of the unexpected.They could have handled the situation better.

Indeed. It looked like final dress rehearsals and, considering Jade was in all her finery still this evening, I suspect it was late this afternoon it happened. They wouldn't have got confirmation she wasn't to dance until a while after it happened either.

I thought that most of the dancers both pros and celebs seemed in a state of shock. I actually thought that Ricky was saying as if he wanted everyone to think what a lovely caring chap he is. Sorry if that sounds cynical but I think he is far too smarmy and he was hoping for a few more votes for being Mr Nice Guy. I'm sure I read somewhere that the others feel he struts his stuff and annoys some of the others backstage. It's not the first time he has done something like that just after he has scored highly and somethimes overmarked IMHO. But of course this all could just be gossip to gain more viewers etc etc.

I wonder if the BBC had filmed Jade's complete full dress rehearsal dance from all the various angles ... they could have shown her rehearsal dance ... and the judges could have perhaps marked that ... the problem would have been if she had been in the dance-off ...

Probably because Jade is real competetion and secretly they are glad she may not be able to dance again.

Hi Bobby'sgirl I would be very interested to see the source regarding Ricky annoying some of the others backstage. Only because I noticed that Phil seemed to be quite off with both the Rickys last night. His "cheeky chappy" persona dropped and the sportsman who hates losing seemed to appear and didn't want to talk to the guy who knocked him out or the strongest competitor in the competition. It made me wonder if all is not backstage between the SCD family again this year.

How on earth can you make such a sweeping assertion? You have no idea how much sympathy Jade received. You only saw a few edited bits on the televised show. The contestants all had their minds fixed on their own performances. And a good thing too. You can't interpret that as a "meh" response".

If every contestant had mentioned Jade the show would have been all about her and I'm sure that's the last thing she would have wanted.

I'm more surprised at some of the unsympathetic opinions on this forum.

Should Jade have to withdraw due to injury not only will we have lost the most exciting dancer in the show (my opinion) but more seriously she might also have put her athletics career in jeopardy.
