Ha ha! It's totally the kind of thing he would say though...only in jest.
I bet it was on the tip of his tongue to say it to lighten everything up but I think he's got himself very much in check these days.

Loved the way he said "Told You" as they went through...stupid public sympathy - she has been rubbish for weeks before an injury

I would say that Anton's caring reaction to the problem last night was just typical of him. I have met him, as well as seeing him on several occasions "off-duty", and he has always struck me as a charming guy.

He looked stunned when their names were called out - he looked as if he expected to be in the dance off .

He did look stunned.

*Sigh*, their rumba was actually quite romantic...my heart was in my mouth.. It was better than James and Zoe's rumba.

Strapping it up really helps actually. It's about much needed support and pain management. When I studied classical ballet I had more sprains than I can count and learnt how to strap up my ankles in about 10 seconds flat! I also used to soak the bandages in ice cold water for extra soothing relief!

And yes, I did dance on. I think Laila is a bit of a wuss!

Interesting post. I suppose all injuries and reactions to injuries are different but I remember (vaguely) back in my Uni days I suffered the odd sprained ankle (don't ask). After the initial excruciating pain, the ankle would go numb and I could walk on it but, about 3 hours later, it would stiffen up and I couldn't put weight on it at all. But, as I say, different people, different reactions to injury.

You seem rather obsessed with the minutae of my posts. I believe both points. Can I have more than one opinion on something? Is that ok?

A wuss for what?

Dancing despite an injury and completing half her routine?

Pretty brave if you asked me.

Might I suggest, sofakat, that in your ballet dancing days you weighed a lot less than Laila does, and your muscular system (so including tendons etc) was in generally better trim than hers and could cope with such an injury more easily.

For what it's worth I have sprained and tore the ligaments in my ankle in the past and have not been able to walk on it properly for at least a week after I had done it, ligament's even worse.

Leila deserves praise for just getting on that dance floor in an elastic bandage, which makes me wonder if it is more than a sprained ankle, and well done Anton for being so caring and leading her through the dance, you could see she was suffering and I was wincing at every step she made, Anton was so kind the way he picked her up and took her back to the judges and carried her off the stage. She perhaps would have been better to try ballet shoes as Ali did, but even so well done both of them for having a go.

I have seen elsewhere someone trying to lip read what she said before going on stage, she actually said to Anton "I'm ok"

I think it was "told you" actually, but yes, I agree.

I do wonder if pressure was put on Laila to dance last night.

The producers already had Bruce out, Jade with a popped knee, they didn't want another no-show.

If Bruce and Jade had been fine, maybe Laila wouldn't have danced.

But what do I know?!

Both Laila & Anton will be well aware of what's said on the forums and I think it was more a case of not wanting to give the detractors more ammunition by not performing at all.

Plucky lady no matter what the reason.

Just watched back the results bit and I think Anton says 'What'd I say, told ya'

This obviously means that Laila was worrying herself silly about having to dance on the ankle again and he told her not to worry. He probably didn't actually believe this himself but when their names were called the relief was obvious. Laila was shocked Anton was relieved.

Seems like he was trying to be kind and keep her calm to me.

But the Anton haters of the world will see negatives in everything he does I suppose.

Not with you on this. he was playing for the sympathy vote for all he was worth. And he said 'Told you so!' to Laila when they got through.

Think about it, what would you say to your partner in between the dance and the results? Something along the lines of 'don't worry we'll be fine'? I know most would, she was bound to be worrying herself silly about having to dance again.

So him saying 'See what'd I tell ya' doesn't sound bad to me at all, its a confirmation of the comfort he was trying to give her.

Again! Like the other two posters have said above me - just because he said 'Told you so' DOES NOT imply anything. She stopped halfway through the dance, and must have been worrying about being in the dance - off and naturally so seeing as they were called out last.

Anton had probably been comforting her all along, and when they were finally through he said what he said to make her feel better.

Im tired with all the posters trying to state the obvious when there's nothing there and just trying to start an argument. So stop with all the speculation!

Sorry, but how does saying 'See, told you' after being voted through imply anything other than that he was confident of getting through?

I'm not a particularly violent Anton-hater (though I wouldn't say I was his biggest fan either), and I think his concern for Laila during their dance did him credit. But even thinking that it's a good idea to say something like that when you're wearing a microphone is just another example of Anton's mouth moving faster than his brain.

If I were him I wouldn't expect another sympathy vote to go his way.

As others have said, he could have had no confidence about getting through, but have told Laila that he did to encourage her after their dance. It's hardly unusual for people to tell someone who feels that something has gone horribly wrong that it will all be okay, even if they don't believe it themselves.

Even if he said "told you" because he was confident of getting a good public vote, why is that so wrong? After seven years on the show he's seen enough sympathy votes to know that they would be likely to be saved by the public.

If I were you, I wouldn't expect Anton and Laila to lose much support because of this.

Though Anton said words in Lai's ear
It's foot-in-mouth syndrome I fear
To reassure her
He receives more censure
There's more hate from people on here

Than ever has come from Anton
A good bloke when all's said and done
Mob mentality
Causes much more fatality
Than a dance slip on BBC1 !

I wrote that for the Limerick thread about 4 o'clock yesterday. As it seems to tally with a lot of views on this thread, thought it would fit here too.

From the horse's mouth you might call it. (If you don't like Anton, that is. ) He's almost his own worst enemy.
