copying media to usb from HDD

I have only have my foxsat+ for a short while so am still getting to grips with it.

Managed fine to transfer some mp3 and pics to my hdd from the usb stick.

When I try to back up recorded programmes on to my usb the copy button is greyed out.

Am I doing something wrong or are some things copyprotected so they cannot be backed up?

Apologies if this has been asked before I did do a search but probably put in the wrong keywords as not much came up to answer my question.
thanks

Have a look at this on using File Manger, and see if it helps.

Thank for that, looks great - sadly OH has highjacked the tv to play COD mw2 on the xbox, but will have a play about when he goes to the shed for a fag break.

Hopefully I will be able to figure it out from your guide, the manual is a little bit lacking methinks.

It's not my guide although I did have some input to it. Dave was a new user, and he started to write it to clarify his thinking on FM as the manual is rubbish on it.

There will be some you can't copy to USB, namely ITV HD files, ITV have not implemented the Copy Once facility that BBC HD have.

The site that guide is on, Hummy.org has some great FAQs under the HDR section.

Come back with any further questions.

On the subject of USB transfers anyone using a USB hub with the HDR to connect more than 1 external hard drive - presumably they work or do they need to be powered hubs??

I'm using a non-powered hub to run 3 usb sticks so would guess there would be no need to have a powered hub for hdd

There may be an issue if you are using multiple external USB HDDs powered by the USB socket, not by separate power supply.

It will definitely power 1 ext USB HDD, but I'm not sure about multiple?

I'd be using 2 external HDD's each with their own power supply - so should be OK ??

............. interesting to know that something like a WD passport drive( without its own power supply) will work with the HDR ?
