I think It would really boost the shows ratings.
No way, it would have the opposite effect.

Who are you kidding?

I know it's not very PC but Peter Kays 'Britain's Got the Pop Factor... and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice' was pure class. I actually think I preferrred 2 up 2 down and R Wayne to Geraldine.

Oh please - I split my sides just thinking about it.

I love, love, love Peter Kay - and I maintain than an SCD Amarillo would storm the charts.
If you weren't so damn cute with your "Will I be a petunia in an onion patch" (yes, I saw that!) analogies, I'd wash my hands of you!

Well this is a confusing thread .....does the OP want Vernon or Peter Kay looks like she means Vernon which is a no no no no and thrice no from me. Peter is a comic genius and I love him.

I dont 'get' Ricky Gervais at all.

It's no good picking random stars out to host this show even if the job becomes available.

It'd have to be someone with "nothing better to do" on a Saturday night for the sixteen weeks before Christmas, that wouldn't include Peter Kay.

That's why we get "C list" celebrities as competitors.

Even "vaguely memorable" soap actors can probably earn more in panto than being a contestant. Which now because of the standard, means more hard work than a lot of people would be prepared to put in.

I'd rather have Ronnie Corbett than Vernon Kay.

Yes to Peter Kay... but only if he brings Kat (F**KING SHUT UP!) Deeley with him. She makes Claudia Winkleman look like Tess Daly!

I could live with Dale as host. (He probably falls into the nothing beter to do on a Saturday night category as well )

Vernon Kay ! I mentioned him as part of my nightmare scenario in another thread.
I think Michael Deacon of the Telegraph put the case against that idea better than I ever could.

"As a TV presenter he’s blander than a Rich Tea biscuit. On screen there’s simply nothing to him. He’s basically a smile in a suit, a beaming blank, a nodding dog with exemplary dental work.
He’s all sheen and no substance. That’s the reason he’s always been given rotten shows: Beat the Star, All Star Family Fortunes, Boys and Girls. They’re turds, and it’s his job to polish them.
I know people say Forsyth is too old. But I don’t care how old he gets. I’d sooner see Strictly presented by his corpse than by Kay."

Hate Peter Kay and hate Ricky Gervais as well. Sorry Ignazio

Vernon, on the other hand, I have reason to think is a) a lovely fella and b) not at all bad at his job. He also idolises Brucie to the point of worship. I think he might manage to replace the old fart after all...

Vernon - NO

Peter is brilliant, but NO

Dale W - OMG are you mad??? I already FF through Bruce's bits but I swear I would never watch the programme again!

If you want a new presenter (and as mentioned elsewhere I thought Tess and Claud did a pretty decent job), then how about Michael McIntyre? Or even bring back Natasha!

Great idea..now you're talking. I can never see it happening, Michael McIntyre is far too busy..sell-out shows everywhere. But that really would make SCD compulsive viewing.

All this talk is academic.

The way things work at the BBC; you'd get Fiona Bruce, Kate Humble, or Julia Bradbury.
