Wow - this is a shock - I was only talking about him a few days ago.

Was a fan straight from Def beats One which he produced and added a song to make up the numbers

RIP

For those not in the know, he was an English rap artist (and DJ) who's biggest hit was Bad Young Brother!

Just heard this myself today. Totally shocked - as indeed I have been by all those who've passed this year - by the news.
I grew up listening to Music Of Life stuff and although Derek was sometimes teased he was actually extremely respected by the UK rap community.

Just heard this news.

Bullet From A Gun was a great album, I was watching loads of his stuff on You Tube a few weeks ago and always wondered what he was up to now.

Didn't he do 'Paid In Full' back in 1987? Good record; also introduced Ofra Haza's I'm Nin Alu to the UK and for that he deserves plaudit alone.

Er...

Genuine apologies CF, I was relying on my chart knowledge from over 20 years ago and now realise the mix-up. Not to detract at all from the sadness of someone talented passing at such an age. Ironically DB's Bad Young Brother, which I do remember and liked at the time, charted the following summer at the same time as the Ofra Haza song I mentioned.

A sad fact about Derek B is that probably he was most famous for the line "Derek B, On Your Bike" from Harry Enfield's Loadsamoney.
