When I read thread titles like this I suddenly realise that Bruce isn't so bad after all...

I could actually imagine him filling in quite well for Bruce on a one-off basis, but being the host permanently is a different situation and I don't think he'd be the man for the job. On a one-off basis I think you'd see him quite reined in, on a permanent basis you wouldn't be able to keep him quiet.”

It's okay, I was only joking!

Unfortunately your idea of a joke (mine too) might well be the production team's idea of a good idea. This time last week it would have seemed like a joke to suggest having Ronnie Corbett appear at the start of the programme, do some predictable height jokes, then sit on the side like a spare part for the rest of the programme except for a couple of truly embarrassing pretend phone calls.

Lionel? No No No!!

The Tess/Claudia combo worked really well on Saturday but if a new male presenter was brought in I would vote for Aled Jones - he comes across as friendly and modest, he's a past contestant, and he's under pension age!

Lionel Blair is about the same age as Brucie-babes - so if Bruce retires (which I hope he doesn't) - then so should Lionel - actually saw Lionel live a few years ago and he should have been pensioned off years ago - he actually made my flesh crawl when seeing him live. If you have to have a male presenter - then the list is endless. Favourites would be:

Paul O'Grady (so funny)
Graham Norton (totally irreverent)
Aled Jones (experienced presenter who has the same knowledge of dance as one of the judges)
Julian Clary (for the same reason)

Aled Jones is a bit bland. The other 3 are OK though.

Lionel Blair is one of the most intensely irritating people on the entire planet!

O'Grady or Norton would meen the end of SCD for me. I'd rather have bloody Ant & Dec <Shiver> Can't believe I've actually typed that.

He wasn't just sitting behind Ronnie, he kept moving his head from side to side so that we wouldn't miss him - I wondered if he was auditioning.

Not a good replacement fro Brucie imo.

Crikey, people will be wanting Tom O'Connor next.”

He hasn't been on for years because when he opens his mouth ......

lets just say he is dentally challenged and the whistling through his dentures plays havoc for the sound guy!

Now, Tom O Connor, there's a thought

Lionel Blair is very knowledgeable about dance - he choreographed a couple of movies. He's also a better dancer than Brucie - and imo not such a bighead (ok I know many will disagree with that).

It's not that long since I saw him as the childcatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - and for a man who was then around mid 70's he's very agile.

Having said all that I think if Bruce retires, they should be looking for someone younger, though not necessarily young. It doesn't have to be a song and dance man - I wouldn't mind seeing Tess and Claudia take on the roles they filled on Saturday on a permanent basis.

no way he'd go to the opening of an envelope would that one, its about time he retired gracefully as well.

Which of the above could be relied on to show unswerving solidarity for the dancers as they're waiting for and getting their marks, aiming jokes only at the judges?

This is Bruce's real strength on the show. Any successor has to do the same.

I found that hilarious. He should have just a placard around his neck with his phone number saying 'for hire'.

When I saw him almost dislocating his neck trying to get in to camera shot on Saturday in Brucie's absence, I just kept thinking Alan Partridge dancing in his imagination for that BBC commissioning editor guy. 'Do you want me to lapdance for you? My peep-hole pringle is modelled on an SAS balaclava, sweet feet ooooh ...'

Brrrrrrrrrrr, I'd sooner chew off my own toes than watch Lionel Blair present ANYTHING. His luvviness overdose would beat Forsyth for the compulsion to reach for the fast forward button.
