So as a Dr do you think she or Phil should have danced?

How did I know within just reading the thread title this was another "Bhoy" creation

This is only a light entertainment show, forcing someone to dance when they obviously can't which could also lead to their career being put a risk due to further injury is just daft, and we found out this evening that she wasn't allowed to perform by doctors' orders.

If not she would obviously have to rely on her first round performance - as you can see the Olympics/Commonwealth/Europeans is nothing like SCD.

You've gone down in my estimation Bhoy.”

Yes but thats the rules of the Long Jump (injured or not) and I know you are going to say well his is the rules of SCD and I do accept this.

Unfortunately I don't think the rules are correct hence i have asked this question. It looks though I am in the minority so I guess I will just have to bow out gracefully and accept I am wrong on this one

As for the XF/PI stars I don't think hey should have been given the week off either but as this a SCD forum I will debate the SCD contestants on here for now

PS.Yes I am happy now and not because I dislike Jade but I feel if she had come back and gone onto to win the series it would have been unfair”

Ok then....A pro on DWTS was injured a few years ago.....another pro stepped in to cover and the celeb was able to dance...Do you think the celeb in question should have been booted off because their pro partner could`t dance?.....What I`am trying to say is that the production team will try their utmost to give the celebs/contestants every opportunity to Dance and continue to participate until they are voted off by the public....As another poster has mentioned the BBC has drawn up a set of rules with regard to injuries.Everyone knows the score.....and the other celebs all know it could have been their knee that had popped. At the end of the day Strictly is a light entertainment show.....Some on this forum may want SCD to be a real dancing competition but it`s not and it never will be as long as the public have any say as to who will be eliminated and eventually win.The huge success of Strictly and other shows of the same ilk is down to the participation of the public.....if the public had no say then these shows would not be given a prime time slot and watched by millions.....In fact they`d not even be on our screens.

Without having the capacity to take a full history of their injuries, to know the complete mechanism of their injuries and not being able to perform an examination of their injuries, my professional opinion cannot be completely given and can only be classed as conjecture.

I personally think:

Phil, should have danced. Its likely he had an arthroscopy which is an operation to investigate and assess the joint - in this case, his knee. And I think whatever they found/didnt find on his arthroscopy was adequate enough for the Doctor to advise him to rest and then dance later on in the week if he felt able to. Phil obviously felt able to and he knows his own body better. He would have also had intensive physio and constant attention to his injury and would have been advised against it if it was to the extent Jade's was.

Laila. Its a tough one. I personally feel if the injury was as severe as she made out then she shouldnt have danced. However, the fact the Doctor said she could -although it could be painful - dance on it, Im not sure that the injury was as bad as it was made out to be. I dont mean to be nasty to Laila, she did look like she was in pain after all. But bad ankle sprains can take weeks to recover and we advise initial rest and relaxation and elevation and no heavy duty exertion - like a rumba.

Also, I am not impressed that she went out there with just a little scrap of tubigrip on. She needed a proper ankle support if she was that badly injured and wanted to dance.

Also the other celebs and pros are more than happy with the situation judging by their responses on Saturday and Brian and Ali on ITT tonight.

I am happy with it as I love Jade and Ian so yeah!!!

Thanks for the detailed response.Obviously I have to bow down to your superior knowledge on this subject

I actually never thought that Laila could have been feigning injury until you suggested that there

Im not suggesting she's feigning it Bhoy at all. A worst, I think she was being dramatic as she had been medically cleared.

drbol , we are starting to agree far too much now!!! But I too wondered about the little pick of tubigrip and why she didnt have proper support .

And I still cant get over the fact that noone in BBC thought to show Jades dress rehersal !!!

Still think maybe it would have not done her any harm to have a bye this week as obviously whether she was fit to dance or not I presume you agree the injury hampered her ability to dance to full capacity

I wonder if its been suggested on the ITT forum over in BBCForumHell? They seem to take notice of the forums on ITT (wish they took notice of DS).

Indeed the injury certainly did hamper her ability to do justice to her dance but it is an unfair and spiteful speculation to say she faked her injury so she could get a bye this week. She didnt take the 'bye over' that she could have taken (as Claudia said, she had the opportunity not to dance), she danced on it. She could have easily been placed in the Dance Off and sent home, as Len said tonight she should have gone. It was the GBP who saved her to dance again, on what I blummin' well hope is a recovered ankle next week.

no, cos he didnt need it. its not a difficult concept to grasp.
if he had the op the day of the performance, like jade and laila got their injuries on the day. they would have given him a bye.

When Ali was hurt, she did the steps but the dance (a Paso) lost all its expression and attack. Same with Laila's Rumba, zero lust. This is mainly why I don't think Laila was acting up her pain. You just can't concentrate when you don't know what your nerve endings are going to tell you next.

Whether she could have been anything more than "polite" in the dance of lurve, we'll never know, 'cos I can't see her getting far enough to have to repeat it.

I don't think the injury was as bad as she made out. If it had been a bad sprain, she wouldn't have been able to put any weight on it, let alone dance. My friends who have had basic investigative arthroscopies have been able to walk about and start normal activities almost from day one. When I have my knee reconstructed (also by arthroscopy I believe - just doesn't involve slicing the knee open) I won't be able to bear weight properly for as long as it takes to "take", so to speak. I really hope Jade hasn't damaged the ligament, but I'm sure we'll find out.

Maybe for the same reasons as DS members get a short ban for first infringement of T&C, then a longer one, until...

Total Banhammer!

And you're quoting rules for the 100m sprint.

That was one graceful exit.

I believe the rules are that if the doctor says you cannot dance, then you keep your place (Jade's case). If he says you can, then you have to go out and try (and hope that judges and public will make some allowance for the fact you can't dance as well as you could have done without an injury) or decide to drop from the competition - Laila's and Tufnell's case.

As long as the rules apply consistently, I don't see any problem in making the doctor's opinion the deciding factor.

So she deliberately caused an injury to her knee and jeapordised her long jump career just so she could put her feet up for a few days?

I've heard it all now.

Bhoy - you know sod all about athletics.

Compared to Jade's athletics career, and the possibility of medalling at the Europeans and/or the Olympics, SCD means nothing.

Get it into perspective my friend.

She had a MRI scan on her knee which classified her MCL tear as a Grade II so unless you are going to suggest the MRI scanner and the Radiologist who reported the scan were wrong/bribed then I think you'll have to realise that the fact you are suggesting a professional athlete would deliberately tear her own ligament to avoid dancing in a competition and put her career at risk is complete and utter balderdash.
