Without having the capacity to take a full history of their injuries, to know the complete mechanism of their injuries and not being able to perform an examination of their injuries, my professional opinion cannot be completely given and can only be classed as conjecture.
I personally think:
Phil, should have danced. Its likely he had an arthroscopy which is an operation to investigate and assess the joint - in this case, his knee. And I think whatever they found/didnt find on his arthroscopy was adequate enough for the Doctor to advise him to rest and then dance later on in the week if he felt able to. Phil obviously felt able to and he knows his own body better. He would have also had intensive physio and constant attention to his injury and would have been advised against it if it was to the extent Jade's was.
Laila. Its a tough one. I personally feel if the injury was as severe as she made out then she shouldnt have danced. However, the fact the Doctor said she could -although it could be painful - dance on it, Im not sure that the injury was as bad as it was made out to be. I dont mean to be nasty to Laila, she did look like she was in pain after all. But bad ankle sprains can take weeks to recover and we advise initial rest and relaxation and elevation and no heavy duty exertion - like a rumba.
Also, I am not impressed that she went out there with just a little scrap of tubigrip on. She needed a proper ankle support if she was that badly injured and wanted to dance.
