Old Panasonic TV - Worth Fixing?
I have an ancient Panasonic TV, model TX-25MD1/B. It dates from the early 90s but the tube is good and older programmes look better on this than on my new LCD set.
Unfortunately it has stopped working, when switched on the red light comes on but the set doesn't, it makes a strange high pitched "ping" noise every few seconds. I suspect this is a power supply fault but don't know enough to have a go myself. I just wonder if anyone on here has ever repaired these and if it is likely to be a major problem. There are a couple of companies in my area who could do it. Thanks |

That model must date back to around 1994 give or take a year.. very good TV's but cost effective to repair? that's a good question.
I'd have thought a workshop would be charging something like £40 - £65 for a repair to the powersupply, it could be something else though like the line output transformer/transistor. If it's a Euro2 chassis (look on rear label) then here's a roundup of common faults: SYMPTOM Dead - Degauss thermistor Dead/PSU Tripping - i) IC601 (VDP3108-29) Standby Light Pulsating ii) IC1203 (EAROM) 21/25MD1 IC1941 25/29AD1 iii) T551 (LOPTX)/ or LINE O/P Tx iv) Check data/clock (SDA/SCL) (Found on an old tech document from Panasonic) |
