*facepalm*

I thought this had something to do with the programme budget when I read the title

Credit Squeeze? what does this mean? (other than in a financial budgeting sense)

i'm assuming its when they split the screen in half and advertise the next show whilst the credits are scrolling

I was under the Assumption everyone knew what credit squeeze was these days the same as people know what a DOG is.

I think it's more an indication of where people's minds are at in the current financial climate, rather than a critique of your thread title. I must have been having an airhead moment

And, unless you mean "man's best friend" then I've no idea what you mean by DOG

But to respond to your original point, squeezing of end credits doesn't really bother me, if I am that interested about who was involved in a particular episode I will either look it up on the internet, or, in this case, I would wait for the dvd

DOG = Digital on-screen graphic

The semi-transparant channel logo in the corner of the screen on most cable and satellite channels.

This thread has made me feel really dumb, I've never heard of a DOG or Credit Squeeze - I always call it the watermark and 'those bloody bastards ruining the lasting effect of the program by advertising over the credits'

A DOG is an advanced mobile computer from the year 5000, cleverly disguised as the sort of prop a low-budget 1970s children's show might use.

Trivia: in North America the semi-transparant channel logo in the corner of the screen is usually called a bug. As far as I know, it's not some clever acronym, but a description of how viewers feel about them!

Reminds me of when I was walking my dog once and some random man asked me if it was a dog. I thought he meant as opposed to, say, a giraffe.

Of course, he meant as opposed to a bitch...

In Scotland, the credits were not squeezed - though someone did talk over them.

The BBC can't be held responsible for what your Nan does in your home.

Love it!

Squeezing the credits on a high-profile programme like Doctor Who does cheapen it somewhat, but as said above, once the DVD (or, more importantly, Blu-Ray) is released, does it really matter?

I'm sure this comes as no consolation to those who watched on BBC One due to a lack of options, but there was no credit squeeze on the BBC HD simulcast.

In North America they've long since moved beyond the mere credit squeeze. Rather than just squeeze the original, the data is separated out (text and logos for the production company, Dolby, etc.) and superimposed on a different background. Typically the credits now run along the bottom fifth of the screen , with the rest taken up by promos for other shows or even advertising. When this happens the closing feem toon is lost as well. Usually viewers will have no idea what the closing feem is until the home video release.

So in short, it's only going to get worse, not better.

Luther appears to get around it by having the next week's highlights intercut within the end credits. Doesn't get squeezed.

I'm seriously dumb here, I think. What is this all about? Credit crunch, Dr Who has gone down the drain, or major ecological disaster. Can someone enlighten me, please...

Why did you bring up a 6 month old thread in the Doctor Who forum for this?

Credits as in the end of the show, getting shrunk down so they can go 'Next on BBC is...'. That thing.

Yes I've noticed that, sneaky but clever.
Makes it much more difficult for the marketing bods to squeeze the end credits when the highlights of the following week's episode are intercut with them.
