Makes me wince just thinking about it.

I know, its so dangerous this dance malarky. Ive had broken toes, sprained ankles and even a torn thigh muscle when I used to Dance (when I had a life and wasnt stuck in work all the blummin time)!

My level and pace of dancing is pretty low risk... ...but fun nonetheless.

A big relief that the injury should heal OK. Jade will probably have to be extra careful with it for a while though, and maybe cut down on training hours.

Basically no time for practice this week - even if she gets the OK after 5 days rest. She cant do a Rumba without any practice, so the choice is either they get to do the Tango, or they will have to sit it out and throw themselves to the mercy of the public, to vote them out of the dance-off.

From an entertainment point of view, the Tango is the way to go, but its effectively giving Jade a dance that probably suits her more than the Rumba would have, so the other celeb's may not be happy with that. However, if they then gave Jade the Rumba next week, it would make that a difficult week for her, which might balance things up a bit.

Assuming it wasn't something that went on the way down and only showed up when she was being helped up.

It does seem very odd that just being helped up from being down on the floor can result in ligament and other damage. Very bad luck indeed.[/QUOTE]

Like I said, it was likely a positional twisting motion when she got into her final tango position and then the force behind her standing up on that twisted and bent knee will have caused the injury. The MCL is there to ensure the knee isnt bent 'inwards' too much as the knee is a joint that should only move on a flexion/extention basis (ie: back and forth). It has minimal rotation side to side, but an over-rotated knee with the knee facing inward (kind of like being knock-knee'd) and having a force behind it, will cause the damage to that MCL.
Yup. I had a friend who severed her cruciate ligament and did nothing more but hit the ground with a straight leg after hockey training.

I hope Jade's ok to dance. I asked this in the ITT forum, don't know what people think:

In regards to Jade next weekend: if she is fit wouldn't she find the Rumba easier on her knee? The Tango involves a lot of flexing and pressure on the knee; the Rumba focuses on the balls of the feet and hips.

It'd be a bit problematic having to learn a routine in a couole of days - but the Rumba seems the easiest to learn out of all the dances as there is more shaping than movement across the floor.

So which of his hats will Len be wearing?

"I must judge this on the actual performance."

"I'm making allowances for the situation as I know you have the ability and potential."

She'll probably get 7 and then it'll depend on who she's against in the dance off (if she's in the dance off).

Great article by Jade ... I would think her athletics physio will know her chances better than anyone ... very encouraging news ... I really hope she makes it ... and gets to perform her Tango.
Best wishes Jade!

This looks like promising news I'm really really hoping Jade & Ian stay. I'm sure we can rely on the fact that jade will only dance if she herself is confident that there isnt any other untoward risk to her so I'd be happy to rely on that. As for which dance they should do, I am no dance expert by any means but it seems to me too that the Rumba could be negotiated with less potential for aggravating any injury, and the way Jade has picked things up generally I think Ian could choreograph something suitable and relatively simple which would be enough to get them through a dance and put something on the board to mark

Really pleased this is looking so positive for Jade, yes I want to see her dance again on Saturday (she's tying with Chris as my favourite) but most of all I'm really happy for her that her athletics season hasn't been wrecked

The tabloids have got it wrong again. Jade hasn't withdrawn from the competition at this stage but she is still resting.

She wont be anywhere near the dance off. She could do the worst rumba ever and get all 1's from the judges and she'll still go through.
(She's my fave btw)

I guess she wouldn't be returning if she thought there was any chance of further damage that would impair her Olympic training in the New Year.

Perhaps if they do the Tango, Ian may modify that slightly so not to stress Jade's knee more than necessary.

I hope htey continue as Jade is my favourite at the moment. her personality has started to come through and I like it when you can see an improvement in people, it makes it more interesting.

It'll be good to see her back on SCD again but I hope she's careful not to overdo.

I'm so glad to hear Jade's injury isn't serious - for her day job more than anything! It must be any sportperson's worst nightmare, so it must have been terrifying for her.

However, not sure how I feel about them lobbying for the tango. It makes sense in a way because she'll have no time to train for the Rumba. and she won't have had any time to practice the tango this week so you can't claim any foul play there.

On the other hand the Rumba isn't the most popular or easiest dance for the celebs on SCD (arguably). It is rather a dud dance - then it can be seen as unfair that Jade/Ian get to swap it for a more crowdpleasing dance that they're obviously good at, especially if it's luck of the drawn when it comes to dance allocations.

There's going to be some kind of backlash, either way

I'm glad that Jade's injury appears better than it seemed. I'd hate the thought that her dancing for my entertainment could cause problems with her career. The only thing is I wonder if it will affect her confidence?

i agree maggie88 the confidence thing may be an issue for jade, but i guess we have to trust her that after such a scare she wouldnt be coming back if she had any doubts. I'm just so pleased to hear this news As for which dance, I would love to see their tango, but I think the rumba is more likely, no doubt they will know by the time they are on ITT tonight so we'll know for sure then! I doubt (and really hope not) there would be a backlash from anywhere regardless, I cant imagine any fellow competitors would feel anything other than relieved for her and glad to have her back tbh maybe i'm being naive?!

I was all for her getting a bye for a week but i don't think she should be allowed to do the tango. Even one days training on it gives her more than the others get and an unfair advantage imo. I also think it would be unfair to Ricky who has the tango this weekend.

If shes not fit enough to learn a new routine then thats almost like getting 2 weekends injury time not one.

Maybe that makes me hard hearted i don't know but it wouldn't sit comfortably with me however much i'd like to see it.

I was thinking more of a backlash from the forums/GBP rather than the competitors. I know have been some comment on the muted atmosphere backstage last weekend and seemingly lack of sympathy for Jade (besides from comments by Ricky W and Brian) but I think they're a pretty tight knitted bunch. They're all going through this intense experience together, so it would be hard not to form close bonds. I'm sure they'll be happy the injury isn't serious, as we are.

She doesn't have to have one day's training. She'll have to do the studio rehearsals and that will give her a couple of gos at the routine to refresh her memory of it and change anything required.

I also think it would be unfair to Ricky who has the tango this weekend...
Because she'll clearly be so much better than he will?

I would rather Jade complete all the dances if she is to stay in the competition and therefore it's better she does the tango now. If she does it later, she definitely will have extra training time for it.
