I have noticed this too.

No, people were reporting problems with the new encoder, including myself, from day one.

The HDMI feed should be a 1:1 pixel mapping of the broadcast (or 1:1.3333 horizontally to unsqueeze BBC HD!). Anything else implies a loss of resolution / quality / sharpness.

(I'm only watching via RGB SCART, and I haven't noticed any change in quality. The HDR is far better quality than our very old Sky box).

Cheers,

Yes you are correct, it should be a 1:1 pixel map.

Humax are aware of it.

Here are piccies!

old firmware. Note the dashes at the top.

BTW you can get the box to lose this slight overscan by pressing red, going into teletext and go to a page, say the news page. When you return out and play the testcard recording it's correctly sized and positioned.

No, he is reporting exactly what the change is.

What noise?

Also, as the problem can be removed consistantly by performing the above operation, it is obviously a box issue.

Whats more concerning than the overscan itself is the effect on horizontal edges that I recently noticed.

I have noticed this also, Whenever part of the picture is required to change quickly , such a person shaking their head, that part of the picture briefly pixellates,

Yes. I've noticed random line flicker about a quarter of the way down the picture on any 'uniform' content . It's only started since the s/w upgrade.

The Humax is at the end of a Scart chain loop thru, that goes via a Topfield DTT PVR, and Sony DVD recorder to the TV. Those other two devices do not exhibit the problem when showing the same channel, so I'm confident the Humax is at fault.

What does your epg look like over scart ?

I'm a caravanner so Clarkson always seemed a bit blurry INSIDE his head.
I have seen large pixellation a few times, particularly on heads, but didn't notice which channel. I'll take note in future.
I actually thought the general range of pictures were as good or better. Mind I am temporarily watching on a 20" SD TV.

Horrible, and overscanned, as do the HD and SD TV channels.

Thanks for that information - I can now get back to true 1:1 mapping. Since Humax are aware of it I would hope that they take prompt action to restore the original position.

More specifically, do you lose characters/digits, and icons on the right edge of the EPG??

Yes, that's consistent, then.

The picture through Scart is overscanned (much more so than the slight overscan on HDMI), and is shifted to the right.

Look at a 4:3 programme through Scart and you will see that the left black bar is thicker than the right black bar, shunting the picture to the right; over HDMI, the 4:3 picture is centred.

Again, Humax are aware of this.

Rgds.

Hi

I bought a humax hdr and set it up today. I noticed that there is overscan straight away, I cannot seem to change this?

This is crucial to me else I will have to return it.

I just have the HDMI connected.

Came loaded with:
HPRSFCI 1.00.17
U7.54

The picture it is producing is soft for me, but can just about live with this.

It was my TV screen ratio setting. It was on auto, changed to 16:9 and magic.

Thanks Graham!

You are welcome. Your individual settings for the TV hdmi input you are using may well be affecting the picture quality. Try turning off the so called picture enhancing options.
