Children In Need 2009 Song
Has anyone heard the new CIN song?
Haven't seen a preview anywhere (still recovering from hearing Rolf and the Quo Xmas preview tune) Understand it's Peter Kay with around 100 'celebrities' in the video |

I heard it on the radio last month. Surely it should be getting a lot of air time around now, seeing as CIN is on friday.

The only song I've seen All You Need Is Love with a bunch of random not-that-well-known singers. It is quite awful.

I thought the identity of the song was shrouded in secrecy and wouldnt be announced until CIN night.

But surely they need air play running up to CIN night so that they get as much money for charity as possible.

Yes it does seem an odd way of going about this. But remember that Amarillo wasnt shown until Comic releif night 2005 and wasnt even going to be a single unless a million was raised within an hour. Then they announced it would be released the following Monday and look what happened. Probably the biggest selling charity single to come out of comic relief or children in need. (I know Perfect Day was also a million seller so maybe the second biggest seller.)

I was confused about this too, it does seem like there are two. The 'Bandaged' All You Need is Love with a smattering of celebrities and Peter Kay's top secret '100 celebs in the vid' one. Quote:
Peter Kay on song for BBC Children in Need It does sound pretty good if its taken two years in the making, I like the way he says UK and US stars, so atleast we know its not just going to be full of soapstars!Peter Kay BBC Children in Need and comedian and singing sensation Peter Kay have joined forces to raise much needed funds for this year's 30th Appeal on 20 November 2009. Viewers will be treated to a world exclusive during BBC Children in Need when Kay reveals his new single packed with almost 100 famous faces both from the UK and America – an historic feat that has never been attempted before. Can he do it? Yes, he can! Peter Kay comments, "It's taken two years of planning to create the video and I just know people are going to be both astonished and delighted. It's been a real labour of love but the result is joyous, potentially another Amarillo!" With the help of Peter Kay’s new charity single, this year's BBC Children in Need Appeal hopes to beat last year’s total of £38 million through donations, which then went to organisations working with disadvantaged children and young people in the UK. David Ramsden, CEO of BBC Children in Need comments, "We are really excited about this year’s single. We’re sure Peter Kay’s midas touch will help to create an iconic charity single that will raise much needed funds for disadvantaged children here in the UK." ![]() edit: More info Quote:
BBC Children in Need organisers say they have pulled off a massive coup by getting some of the biggest music stars to contribute to the official Children in Need single this year.
Without naming names-it is a secret after all-the BBC have issued the following information to get the speculation and rumours going; They say they have brought together THE greatest supergroup of all time, who have been involved in top secret recording and filming for the single that will get its official premier on the Children in Need show on November 20th. The artists involved in the project have together sold over two hundred million albums as well as forty number one singles and the BBC boasts that they even managed to pull a ‘few of the greats out of retirement’ to perform on the charity single. The operation is the most secret gathering in pop history and will not only record the single but also a special video that will premiere at the BBC Children in Need show on November 20th and will transmit live in a world exclusive! |

No doubt it'll be a song that causes you to think...ugh when hearing it. They should have gotten all the best singers from the country to have performed what they chose. Unless of course, they want a totally cheesy and irritating song perhaps?

Its a load of puppets!! I dont think anyone expected that! They said it will feature over 100 celebrities. I dont think Bob The Builder and Zippy from Rainbow was who we had in mind. But actually its very clever and well put together. Peter Kay said it was a nightmare to organise.

"Chippy Minter, you're here! We've just finished." That said, I woul have preferred a whole song rather than a medley. |

I think that it is very well done considering all the rights issues that must have arisen. Not sure about the chart performance because of the X Factor single's dominance at the moment. |

![]() ![]() I think it's a really neat idea, it must have been a real labour of love to get the permission necessary to use characters owned by so many different organisations, and thats before getting the people that voiced the acts to come in and record their bits of the song. <----Obviously I was affronted that they didn't ask me to appear, but I'll get over it...

I feel a bit bad becuase I've slagged Peter Kay off a lot over the past year or two about the fact he still reies on the same old material. All the while he was working on this.
It must have been such hard to work to pull this off, and also the teaser about '100 Stars'; no one was expecting something like this. Phenomenal stuff. One thing i will say though is that it's a pity it relies so much on the video and the actual music isn't great. Yet it still seems to work. Well done PK. |

Didn't see it until this morning but
IT'S BRILLIANT!!!! I'm not a great lover of "novelty" songs but this completely captures the spirit of Children In Need. The use of Children's TV icons is a genius idea and the fact that it even went back as far as 1952 with Andy Pandy was inspired. The whole thing certainly tugged at my heart strings. Look - It's about the kids and for the kids with enough for the adults to appreciate. It deserves to go to number one and stay there for a long time - perhaps even over Xmas. A much more deserving cause than any X-Factor record (except the GOSH record - that can have some time at number one first) Well done Peter Kay. |
