Hi all

To try and put this as concisely as possible, I have an LG LCD television which I purchased in February of this year. Recently when watching it the screen frequently suddenly goes black (sound is not affected) for a few seconds, or sometimes it goes green/red and 'scratchy' - it looks as though someone has taken a biro and scribbled horizontal lines all over the screen (sorry, that's a crappy description but it is difficult to describe!!).

The TV has gone back to LG twice now and they say they cannot see any fault. The TV is always on via our Sky box but if you switch the Sky box off and just watch 'terrestrial' TV it does not have these problems. However, when the tv has been with LG we have moved our other tv into its place (another LG tv) using the same cables, leads etc. We don't experience any of these problems with that tv in the place of the 'faulty' tv.

LG have told me it must be a problem with the sky box but to be honest as there is no problem when I use another tv in its place I can't see how that can be. Can a sky box really detect which tv it is connected to and create problems based on that?

I am at my wits' end with this one...Lg say it's Sky, Sky say it can't be...any advice that can be offered will be very much appreciated. If I need to complain to LG head office I will happily do so but I thought I'd ask others for their thoughts/comments before doing so!

Many thanks in advance.

So this problem really only just started happening?

Now that we are moving towards winter, is it possibly interference from your room thermostats clicking on and off and for some reason LGTV1 is sensitive to this but LGTV2 is not.

Also, it could be the video socket (SCART or HDMI I assume as you did not state which) is a bit iffy on LGTV1.

This is a tricky one to pinpoint for sure.

I had some issues like that on my old TV... it was to do with the input resolution. Instead of 1080i, try 720p

The other TV...is it also an equivalent spec TV? same resolution, flatscreen etc... ?

Apologies, when I said 'recently' I meant over the last couple of months so I don't [i]think[i] it can be weather related.

With regards to the other tv I used, yep it's identical, 30 or 32 inch (can't remember exactly and I'm at work so I can't check!) instead of 26 inch but otherwise all the same spec.

Thanks for your help thus far though, I do appreciate it.

Is this a standard Sky box or SkyHD? if its HD there are several threads in this forum of HDMI issues with various models of TV's and Sky HD.
If it's normal Sky then its far more likely to be a scart connector problem if the set works ok on it's own tuner.
Try interchanging the scart leads with your DVD if you have one.

If your using SkyHD, adjust your tv and Sky box settings to always be 1080i. If I select "Automatic" on my Sony tv, when changing between a HD channel and a SD one, the screens goes black for a moment while it resets. No strange lines though. If I make sure the freesatHD box and tv are always in 1080i, I dont get the black screen. Connected via HDMI cable.

Quince's problem is different though as the picture blanks at random. My picture will blank when changing channels but this is not a problem at all for me whereas keeping on manually changing the aspect ratio as you have to do (unless you want fattyvision) would be a major pain.
