I havw watched Children in Need but got very tired of all the stars going on the programme basically to promote their new single, new book, pantomine etc. I was very disillusioned to read that Terry Wogan gets PAID for CIN which I thought was disgraceful. There are so many exceptionally wealthy stars appearing on the show asking US ALL for money, yet I wonder how much they actually give out of their own pockets. I remember a video of Annie Lennox visiting a young family whose parents had died of AIDS and seeing how they were trying to get themselves to school and a very emotional Annie wanted us all to donate yet she had the money and fame to change these young childrens lives forever but walked away!!

All depends what time it starts. If I am in I will watch the pro dancers and then switch off as marathon shows do not appeal to me, especially if a large chunk of it is being hosted by Alesha Dixon who cooked her goose in Blackpool as far as I am concerned.
Oh well, some of us will enjoy it .

Arghhh surprised Alesha is presenting. I really hope she doesnt say ''you was'' or anything. Can't stand her after the way she spoke to Craig.
I hope she does...just to wind some people up.

Erin posted on her twitter that all of the pros will be performing with Alesha on CiN

Think they're opening the show or something too. BBC Strictly tweeted something about it

I thought it was a strange arrangement too, though even stranger is that he seems to have been unaware that he was being paid and that he seems unable to stop the BBC paying him. He is waiving his fee again this year but it isn't clear why there is still a fee to waive.

How do you know that? Most stars give very generously out of their own pockets - they just might not publicise it.

Yeah apparently he used to get an fixed fee from bbc television for his appearances on BBC ONE [that covered both eurovision, eurovision-making your mind up and c.i.n]. He believed his tv salary was for eurovision alone and was surprised when it was discovered some of it came out of the bbc c.i.n production budget.

If "Wigon" suggested he wasn't aware of the nearly £10,000 each year he was paid for over two decades he'd have had viewers "laughing in the aisles" if that's what he said.
Every year it would have had to be on his tax return which he would have signed.
This the man who bought acres of forests in Scotland in the days when it was a lucrative tax dodge. I bet he knows about every penny he's ever received.
The only comment I'm aware that he made was "I didn't ask to be paid."
This I suppose was to conjure up visions of BBC "suits" stuffing money into his pockets.
Having been found out (I think it was a Freedom of Information Request) he certainly didn't offer to pay back the money. What was it, for 26 years?
This the man who pleaded with viewers earning a fraction of his pay (which he bleated was too low for his radio programme) to give money to CIN year after year.
He was the only one who got paid.

The man's a hypocrite.

1 Each year?

2 In your first line you say for 2 decades and then you question yourself. Perhaps you should get your facts straight before you publish your vileness.

How do you know that she didn't donate money out of her own pocket?

There are many children in situations like this and celebrities are used to highlight this because within our culture this is a useful way of making people take notice, would we take notice if it wasn't a celebrity presenting the story?

And besides stars such as Annie Lennox may be a lot richer than us but then in the UK the majority of us are a lot richer than the vast majority of the world. As can be seen from entering your income in this calculator.

http://www.globalrichlist.com/

PS I do agree that it is a irritating when stars blatantly plug their wares and does go against the whole idea of doing your bit out of the goodness of your heart, the airtime and generaly goodsportedness of a person that might make us more interested in them to seek out their stuff should be enough of a pull

Also I do agree there are stars who should be a little bit more forthcoming with their own money, such as global megastars who campaign against global poverty yet refuse to pay tax in their home country the same way that everyone else has to.

Once again, all the money donated to BBC Children in Need is distributed to a variety of already established charities and organisations working to benefit children and young people.
CIN is just a fundraising tool - the money goes to charities who actually do the work.
I have a friend who used to work for a reasonably high profile charity who said that even they would have had a hard job surviving without the assistance of Comic Relief.

Many of the charities that benefit are small and local ones that wouldn't have a chance of raising the kind of cash they get from a night like this.

Good for you!

But I wouldn't tell you what charity to support, so please don't tell me.

What I am saying is the BBC supports two charities year on year. These are their choices, not the viewers.

I just think it time that they gave other charities the same sort of support for a change.

But then they wouldn't get the same viewing figures would they?
Again can you please learn the facts on C.I.N before you post lies.FYI C.I.N is an umbrella organisation who distribute cash to smaller charities

Err..

If it's over 20 years but under thirty years, it's only two decades.

If you read the post properly before you "rushed into print" you'll see if you look again I said "for over two decades," so I was being completely accurate.

Nothing vile about the truth.

It's all been done before on here, probably before your time.

Try to keep the personal remarks out of your posts, it impresses no one and just devalues anything you have to say.

No need to apologise, read it here, it's old news, including the BBC's pathetic attempts to justify it.

Where's the lies?
I've not mentioned where the CIN money goes, I've just said there's a lot of charities who consider that their revenue falls sharply when these two events dominate the TV schedule.
I suggest it's time for a change, with a wider distribution to charities other than just those for children.

It's just a suggestion, not a proposal for the "massacre of the innocent." Chill out.
