I dont know about the quality of music but the only person I can think of right now that will still be big going into the next decade is Beyonce.

They are like my only two answers these days when it comes to decent, and innovative music; Radiohead and Muse. Can't really think of any other musicians who are as creative tbh.

I think Primal Scream have another innovative career move left in them yet. Also have high hopes for Kasabian, The Cribs and Babyshambles (when they finally record their new album!) in the next few years. Will be interesting to hear Liam Gallagher's solo album if he's not telling fibs.

Thinking about this more and more and M.I.A. is one of the only artists who I think cares jacksh!t about sales and is a true artist when it comes to making music outside of the box. Musically I don't think GaGa is pushing boundaries but from the performance side of things she's in a league of her own right now!!!

I must say I'm quite surprised at some of the responses here. One Reublic, Lady GaGa, Green Day???? none of them are really doing anything that hasn't overtly been done before. Even Kings Of Leon's sound is much more diluted than it used to be... anyway its just my opinion. |

She hasn't done anything decent since Ray of Light album. I doubt she will again.

In terms of making innovative records.. I would say this is the most innovative band I have heard recently. Panda bear

I think she is massively underrated as an artist and doesn't get the respect for her talent that she deserves. She just has to step outside of her comfort zone a little and be willing to try something new. She has got stuck in just the dancing and have fun type of music. |

forgot about Muse.. I think maybe because their last album IN MY OPINION was a step back from the originality that they had. They seemed to have ripped off too much other artists with "The Resistance"

Not many bands would have the guts to do a 12 minute symphony on their album these days, so for that alone, they still impress me. Also, yes, I can't really agree with many of the suggestions on here; Im sure N Dubz will be mentioned soon.

Also in 2009, what is really innovative? I think most genres of music have already been done. I don't know if it's possible to create a totally new style of music at this point.
I just like good music. It doesn't matter if it sounds like something that I've heard before. |

I agree with Yeah Yeah Yeahs, M.I.A and Bjork.
I think the Klaxons have had their day, but we'll see. I am a fan, though. Lady Gaga, as "controversial" as she is, will probably go on to do more of the same sort of stuff. Her new song is no real difference to her older stuff despite being for another album. The same with Muse. They seem to be getting a little bit too big for their boots, and their stuff (singles at least) seems to sound similar to previous stuff they released. The only act who has been constantly different, who I like, is probably Bjork. Every one of her albums offers a different style and sound. I love Skunk Anansie, but their new songs on their greatest hits are not too far from their original sounds. I'm all for progression! |
