Has anyone noticed in soaps (especially EE) if someone becomes upset/gets drunk/goes mental someone will try to be their friend. For example someone like Pauline, Dot, Pat or Ian! Then they interfere and keep pushing the person to find out whats wrong and making out that they are a good friend!

I think its bull!

Mad or deprssed, a bit like Ian taking pity on Kate and being her new best friend.

it is a strange plot development, kate has become a very marginal character since phil left, perhaps this is an attempt to put the character back on track.ian and kate are SUCH an unlikely couple, though.especially after phil and dennis.

are they trying to make Ian likeable? He helped Alfie and Kat, and now he's 'helping' Kate.. are we supposed to consider this him turning over a new leaf?
