Well it says never danced competitivly before which implys it's been danced by pros before. I think one of them will be the Mambo, I think Brian and Kristina are Mambo specialists so that would make sense (to me). I think they only bought the AT in competitivly when V&F joined the show.

The only reason that I think it won't be the mambo is because they've already done a group mambo this series.

I'm hoping for some kind of swing dance.

Thank you very much Force Ten - I will set myself up with a flask and a mound of toast (mostly just butter, sometimes marmite as well) tomorrow and prepare to have a great day's uninterrupted viewing

Donny is fab-u-lous I have loved every minute.......I SO wish he was our strictly.

What amazes me is the man is over 50 he is doing 2 dances on DWTS AND doing a show with Marie in Las Vegas and certain ones of our celebs moan about their schedules. He did admit he was a bit wiped out this week !!!!!!!

another reason really to get more disappointed with Strictly this series they may well follow DWTS and do Bolero (just another rumba really) and Charleston which all in all is a bit of a farce - what is forgotten is the professionals are professional at the standard ballroom and latin dances and not these other imports which shows greatly in their poor salsa's yeah Charleston is the forerunner of jive and quickstep and yes Bolero comes from same root as the rumba but frankly would prefer not to see these silly dances included

Bendymixer, what would you prefer them to add?
bendymixer

to be honest Psychosis nothing - mainly because anything they add is outside the expertise of the professional so as such I see not point, but if I had to pick one would pick the Charleston or Lindy hop as they are the roots of the quickstep/jive

This is more significant than it looks. No one has really done a showstopper yet and this might allow Ali or Ricky W to tick that box. On the other hand some dances lend themselves to actors and you could see Nat doing well with something themed more.

On DWTS the week they had the new dances, if I recall Melissa topped the scoreboard with the Charleston. That looks to me nearest thing to Tom's show dance from last year in impact? Its giving the chance to do a show dance weeks earlier.

Who gets what and how entertaining they make it and could be very important. It could make the top two look more entertaining or make the triers look as if they had closed the gap. Its also happening much later on SCD than it did on DWTS and may make more difference.

I wondered when the promised "Toughest Strictly Ever" was going to re-surface

I presume we are talking about 1 Ballroom and 1 Latin?
I can't think of anything except perhaps the Merengue, the Pachanga or Mambo - a Polka (mentioned a few weeks ago), or perhaps some other folk dance - Landler e.g for Ballroom unless they resurrect an Old Time Ballroom dance

Is the Lambada similar to the Salsa?
I'm hoping for something totally unlike the standards that we have already and so the Jive probably cancels out a Lindy Hop etc (but what do I know )

Vincent and Flavia performed a Milonga last year but that is similar to the Argentine Tango and there was another Latin dance that the boys performed last year whose name escapes me (Starts with an 'M' too?)
I loved Brian and Kristina's Mambo and that has strangely disappeared from Youtube while other pro dances are still there so maybe........

There is always Limbo dancing of course

Does anyone else get the impression that those in the know have previously 'tested the water' on these boards about new dances?

I would be very surprised if they don't just lift the ones used on DWTS. The US show has 2/3 the same judges and even the same announcer so the link is close. The same guests also seem to be turning up on X factor/SCD and DWTS at the moment too so they don't seem to have a ny problems using what just worked 3000 miles away.........

On DWTS they have in this and recent series done

Lindy Hop
Charleston
Lambada
West Coast Swing
Texas Two Step (I kid you not)
Jitterbug
Mambo

Lots of latin type things but not much ballroom.

I really hope they don't do the Texas Two Step or the Lambada (the Lambada was the one which had the playboy model sexing up Derek Hough while semi clothed, right?)

I think I'd probably like the Charleston or Mambo best, although I tend to agree with bendymixer, when you're introducing new dances that the pros haven't got a clue about the standard tends to drop.

Think one of them may be the Lindyhop as I believe Darren and Lilia may be doing a demonstration pro dance of that this coming week - so I have been told!

You know what I always thought the Argentine Tango was classed as a latin and the Tango as ballroom

I would love the Lindy Hop

Actually you are not wrong Argentine Tango was classed as Latin years ago

The tango was added to the ballroom dances when the european ballroom tango was developed

Ok, thanks for correcting me

I did actually wonder if it was actually a latin but then thought, nah they're in hold and it's very similar to the tango and that's a ballroom.

Will pay more attention in future

Sounds like you've got good sources nowittall - just wondering if you'd care to reveal a little more about them so we can be sure you're speaking truth?

I hope it is the Charleston or the Jitterbug.

A couple of weeks ago I posted on the thread about changes we'd like to see on Strictly, saying after seeing these dances done by the celebs this year on DWTS.

We rarely see a decent Rumba or Samba on Strictly and I'd love to see these dances replaced by the Charleston and the Jitterbug.

DWTS has been trying out a fair few dances over the last few seasons and I wasn't keen on most of them, but the Charleston and the Jitterbug were so much fun and very entertaining to watch!

I hope it's not the mambo as I think it's too similar to salsa - esp. the style of salsa they dance on SCD anyway. Regarding Bolero too- although there are some obvious differences between that and rumba, they have a similar mood and to a lot of people, will just seem like the same dance.

Lambada or zouk would be interesting, perhaps, and quite different to other dances. As would merengue, though it's not always a dance that looks great to watch.

I agree with the people who say that it's unlikely to be milonga or Argentine waltz as they're too similar to AT. I think hustle is a very likely possibility.

Very excited to see what they come up with.

It's neither latin nor ballroom in the sense of Dancesport, therefore not classified in that way. It would be classed as a 'latin dance' in the same way salsa, merengue, bachata are, I would have thought, in that it's a dance from latin/south america.
