I really enjoy DWTS on a different level to SCD. The interviews with the losers are done straight after the show and this weeks was very funny even Claudia would not have said what was said to Derek. The futuristic Paso was a highlight for me and I enjoyed the Charlestons to. I find it entertains more than SCD and it did give us the lovely Brian and Kristina.

They'd be better off sticking to the charlston, hustle or a swing type dance.
Something like the mambo or lambada is going to car crash or very stale with these dancers!

That Paso was simply mind blowing! How did Derek come up with the choreography? I was dreading it and couldn't believe how good it was and Joanna was fabulous - spot on with her timing all the way through! Melissa and Mark's Charleston is one of the best dances of the series for me.

I agree. I want to see something different rather than something related to dances already on the show.

Blimey, a thread discussing dance.

Not really, the rhythm's quite different.

Well... sort of.

In the same way that Chacha is similar to Rumba, possibly. They share some technique, but they look and feel quite different.

Milonga is actually more suited to faster-paced Western 4/4 music than AT, so might be better musically. The trouble is that it's quite tricky to have a "show milonga" that looks like AT - it's simply too fast-paced to do the kicky-flicky stuff in Show Tango.

I'd like to see a Milonga, definitely.

What does everyone else think the distrubution of dances will work for the final few week then.

28th Nov - Week 11, will be these 2 new dances.

That leaves 2 weeks to do the 2 remaining dances of the standard 12, and the Argentine Tango. Before we have the final on the 3rd week.

I reckon it will be:

5th Dec - Week 12 (QF) - 2 remaining dances from the standard 12
12th Dec - Week 13 (SF) - Argentine Tango, plus one other repeated dance of choice
19th Dec - Week 14 (F) - Will probably be same as always, 1 ballroom, 1 latin of choice, judges choice, showdance etc..

Anyone agree or disagree?”

I thought they'd thankfully gotten rid of that last year.

Hopefully they have, I think it was always just there to fill time when it was just a 2 person final.

Charlston for me I think .

Swings are never done well in group dances IMO and the hustle would end up looking like a Samba/Salsa I think. Milonga would be the other one I'd like but agree with others that it is probably too much like the AT.

PS. If it's the Texas Two Step I'll leave the country.
Bruce's jokes and the dance itself would be unbearable!

It's not one of the dancesport dances, so it's outside those categories.

If it were categorised, it'd be a ballroom dance, as it's both progressive and it's in hold - although admittedly the hold is different.

Is that the only dance they are doing or is it the start of the 2 dances with one of these new ones and one of the traditional ones performd by each couple as well? Wasn't very clear to me and seems a bit of a gamble to have only 2 brand new dances being danced when the viewers aren't familiar with them and they may or may not prove to be popular.

I think either one of those is going to suit Chris and Ola as they are both 'fun' dances so I am quite happy.

It will be worth the licence fee to watch Anton attempt Rock and Roll

I don't mind the addition of Charleston, but I would have thought Mambo would have been a more obvious choice than Rock 'n' Roll. After all, we've had group Mambo performances in a few series...

You can only have Mambo or Salsa in a series the way it is danced on SCD is far to similar and both are performed far to like the Samba

Don't take my word for it - I might have the wrong one here - Flavia was sort of stepping up and down Vincent's legs

According to a newspaper headline (in Greytops) Laila has gone to Morrocco for a photo shoot and wont be back until Thursday...(I did wonder why they were not on ITT last night)

As someone who doesnt learn routines easily this seems like madness and as someone who really really wants to like her I find it upsetting that she is living up to some peoples low expectations of her comittment to the show.

Maybe it actually reflects her low expectations of how long she would stay in the show.

Didn't Letitia Dean have a similar conflict with a panto opening? But she found a solution that suited both employers IIRC.

If you're so put out by this, why not read the full article, not just the headline, and tell us when she left for Morocco (I can't be bothered frankly). I recall that Laila and Anton have trained on a Sunday before, so perhaps she already got some hours in before she left.

Or perhaps their appointment with the Charleston coaches isn't until Thursday.

Didn't have you down as a rusher to judgement, Jan.

I am not a rusher to judgment I am only posting something about 'training' in the dances thread. They may very well have trained on Sunday BUT there is also a group vienesse waltz this week which (even though they have all learnt a VW) has to be coreographed or they will all be bumping into each other......Ricky W also said he was training on Sunday so I would imagine that at least some of that day would be taken up with training together for that, I seem to remember that was what they did for the group dance for Blackpool. I did read the article it says she will miss 3 days of training and will return on Thursday so I took that to mean she left the country on Monday. They might very well return and train for 24 hours on Thursday and Friday and storm it on Saturday, I hope they do.

I am not a Laila knocker, I supported her through all the nastiness over the racist remarks, I loved her Tango and was cross with Anton for putting in uneccessary lifts and ruining their Paso, I did not join in discussions about her ankle injury being a put up job. The only things I have said against Laila is that in the last couple of weeks I have detected a certain lack of comittment from her, from her body language in interviews and on Saturdays, it could be a lack of confidence but its coming over to me as 'dont care'. If this is the case then it upsets me and makes me cross as a lot of people have supported her and deserve more than that. I have supported many and varied people over the years on strictly but they all had one thing in common and that was working hard week after week even if they didnt always achieve.

I hope that the story is wrong and they are locked away learning the charleston and that they do well if only to 'pay back' the people that have supported them.

Rush to judgement ?? Me ??? no not about Laila I will reserve that for Ricky Whittle

We've no idea about the background to this story but, on the face of it, it does look odd that she's flown overseas for 3 days (without Anton?) before doing two dances on Saturday.

Also we don't know what her contractual arrangements are with the magazine or the BBC but the impression given by this action is that she's kind've given up on further progression. Could be wrong though and she may come out with a storming Charleston and I'll eat my words.

BTW according to another poster elsewhere, Ricky is dancing his R'n'R to 'Hound Dog' by Elvis - no complaints from me about that one

On another thread there's speculation that no-one might be voted off this week to achieve the Beeb's stated wish for a 3-person final. Pure speculation, granted, but that would certainly explain both the two new dances, and Laila feeling she can afford the days off.

I'm only going on what Anton said on the radio yesterday. But he said that they learnt the Charleston from the coaches on Monday. He said they would continue to practise it for the rest of the week. He said nothing about Laila going to Morocco.
