These slowdown issues seem more like a memory leak than a processor issue - it's probable that the same memory leak in software exists in all the Humax models (since they're all running quite closely related firmwares) but the later hardware generation has more memory available which has masked these problems until now.

The Humax Series Link functionality is that it only displays the next episode in a Series in the Recording Schedule screen. This entry remains displayed in the Recording Schedule while the programme is being recorded. I'm not sure exactly when the next event in the Series is added. I have never checked but I would guess it is very shortly after the current event has finished recording. Even though only the next event is shown in the Recording Schedule all the events in the Series are marked with the recording icon in the Guide for the next 8 days.

Dancing on Ice is unusual in that both the "Dancing on Ice Friday" and the Sunday "Dancing on Ice" programmes are treated by the Broadcaster as part of the same Series, even though they have different names. So during weekdays, only the "Dancing on Ice Friday" event is shown in the Recording Schedule. The main event on Sunday only appears in the Recording Schedule after the completion of the Friday event and the results show is only shown after the completion of the main show.

Edit:- Just to add that if a recording fails, the entry remains in the Recording Schedule after the time it was due to record. I'm unsure when it gets replaced with the next event in the Series, if there is one. Also if the recording is successful and it is part of a Series but there is no further episodes for the Series shown in the Guide for the next 8 days the Recording Schedule entry remains showing the timing of the now past event.

Updated 9150T and its still buggy.

1: Failed recordings
2: Box locks up and needs to be switched off
3: Some recordings record but refuse to play

All in all Humax are very dissapointing

I don't believe anyone has identified the cause (well Humax claim they have done so in a Facebook entry) of the slow down on the 9200 despite it being probably the most active discussion on the Humax Sub-forum for the last few months. AFAIK the two posts in this thread today are the first reports of a similar issue on the 9300 (ignoring the issues during the DSO in Granadaland which I suspect were due to a different cause.)

I can't remember when I first noticed it. Certainly, when I first got it, it worked perfectly, but now certain functions on the remote are very sluggish (epg etc as mentioned above, though once open navigation in the epg is fine) whilst others are still responsive and quick (ie recorded programmes menu and other buttons under the flap).

It's definitely not a DSO or dual transmitter issue (strong signal from Crystal Palace with no others close enough to cause duplicates in the 800s) and it started before the last mass retune event and hasn't been cured by (either of) the last Humax firmware updates.

I don't pretend to know anything really, it's just common with this sort of gradual slowdown in response times for there to be some kind of accumulative open process somewhere, eating available memory in the background and eventually slowing things down in the foreground. It could be some continual process eating up processor cycles rather than memory - so again it would become more apparent sooner on the 9200 - but either way, it's quite believable that the underlying issue exists on the 9300 too.

Think about it - if the difference between the 9200 and 9300 firmware was that obvious to Humax, surely they'd have been able to fix the 9200 sooner?

My family have had the same experience.

I have to say Humax have been slow in addressing this and when you purchase a high end PVR you expect and should get a better level of product and service.

Whats bad is the fact that people are now in the position where they set it to record something and its hit and miss if it succeeds or not or whether it will play what its recorded.

Its very poor coming from a brand like Humax.

Guess next time I will advise people purchase Sony or something cheaper as there is nothing extra to be gained by spending more on a Humax

I have been having the same issue. It's happened a number of times and I only know it's done it because the OSD suddenly runs off the bottom of the screen because it has defaulted to 4:3 aspect ratio. It's infuriating. The software update has solved the frequent freezing, but the unwanted default resets persist.

For many years I had a Sony VHS recorder.

As far as I can remember it never failed to record, nor did I experience any lockups or the other bugs listed with the Humax.

Before the 9300 I had a Sony DVD/HDD recorder and that was prone to lockups and freezing.

Why can't these manufacturers get it right now ?

Pricing and consumer choice. It's like most things these days - few of us are willing to spend extra on quality and manufacturers find it difficult to invest enough to achieve decent quality whilst still turning a profit.

At least Humax try to fix problems on some models. We ought to give them a little credit for that.

Hi, glad to know its not just us! Unfortunately, we are now starting to have freezing problems again, although this time it seems to happen when we change channels - last night Lark Rise was recording at the time - grrr!Guessing our software is up to date - is there any point raising a bug with Humax? Haven't dare leave it on again overnight so haven't seen any default resets - really not got time to recreate the schedule again!

We spent extra on a Humax because we were led to believe they stood for quality and reliability.

No, its not Humax that deserves credit, its the people who have bought their products.

Compared to yours, the problems that I get are:

1) Occasional scheduled recordings fail (perhaps 1 in 30).

2) Box sometimes hangs when manually changing channels (and it's always to a BBC channel). But it never locks up when left on a channel (or in standby).

3) I do sometimes get the "no signal" indicator when playing back a recording, but it never affects any "being" recorded channel.

Came back from holiday to find 9150t had an ota update (1.00.23, apparently). Everything seems to be OK (did default reset and retune). Surprised there have been no posts in last few months - maybe there's a new thread. Anybody got any comments?

Problems still exist. Box still freezes and then fails to record. Both my Aunt and Mother have same box, one missed the OTA update for some reason....guess thats another bug to add to the list
