Do you get a picture when you switch on if you use Scart instead of HDMI? If so you may suffer from an HDMI Switching issue.
Can you try a different HDMI in socket and see if that improves?
You could contact Hitachi to see if they have any upgrades for this.
Otherwise if you get a Remote that supports macros, you could programme in the sequence that you described that gets you back to the picture, as your switch on routine.
