Has anyone heard about this? Apparently CPW have stopped selling and are accepting returns as are O2.

I'm a bit worried as got a Satio last week on a 18 month contract. So far haven't had any problems apart from my sat nav playing up.

Carphone Warehouse have stopped selling the Satio until Sony Ericsson provide an updated firmware (basically the same as "Windows Update" if you don't understand what that means).

Your phone is fine, just wait until the new firmware is released. You need to check regulary on the Sony Ericsson Update Service which can be downloaded here

As this suspension of sale is all software related, there's nothing to worry about, nothing is going to blow up or fall off your phone.

it doesn't mean it's going to break. it just means that the firmware wasn't/isn't ready when they released it.

new phones keep coming out like mushrooms and many ppl are tied up with contracts.
if you are interested in any new/upcoming phones, like htc hd2,e72, n900,experia x2, x10,etc. this might be the a very good opportunity to get out.

I had heard the Satio was much more stable than recent SE models, but that doesn't necessarily seem to be the case now.

When I was tempted away from Nokia, I got the K850i, which needed replacing within a month. The second one wasn't fatally flawed but was very buggy and switched itself off all the time.

Now I have the C905, which is as bad. Still has the switching off issue, and three times now it's had the 'insert correct SIM' error meaning it had to be completely reinstalled and wiped.

Meanwhile, my other half has had her Nokia N95 for two years now without a single problem. I might not go back to Nokia, but I'm pretty sure my next phone won't be a SE.

Because then you wouldn't feel the need to upgrade to the newer and improved model

Ive had mine a few days now from 3, it freezes on me for 5-10 seconds switching between screens. Google maps doesnt even load up, sometimes the camera doesnt register the slider has been opened.
Is this the reason they have been recalled?

Anybody know why new 12MP phones are so rare to come by on the high street?

Pixon 12 - Only place to sell one is Phones4U.
New LG 12MP phone - Never heard anything about it in a while.
Satio - Pulled for how long?

This time last year we had the C905, Renoir, Pixon, Ultra touch all out.

It seems that network branding might actually be a good thing for a change...
Sony Ericsson Satio smartphone withdrawn from sale over software glitch | Technology | guardian.co.uk

Sony Ericsson has suffered a major setback with news that retailers Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U have halted sales of the handset it had hoped would revive its flagging fortunes because of a software glitch.

The phone apparently crashes when switching between applications while some customers have complained that it can suddenly lose all of its ringtones. Customers have complained that they have to remove the battery to get the phone to switch back on. Sony Ericsson says it is working on a solution to the problem which it hopes to make available on its website as soon as it is ready. It remains to be seen whether any of the mobile networks will offer the patch as an 'over the air' upgrade.

The issue appears to be linked with the way that SonyEricsson has placed its own software 'skin' over the handset's basic operating system. Phones sold directly by Orange and Vodafone - both of whom have placed their own 'skins' on the device - do not seem to have been affected.

I understand there is also an issue with the camera slider, a quality control problem similar to the case cracking on the Xperia X1 early models.

It's a goner. Nobody needs a big lump of a phone with a camera that size.

Let's have some decent non smart phone/non touch phones.

Speak for yourself. I have one and not had any problems, and the camera is fantastic, it's good enough now that I don't need a separate one. There is no source in that story.
