Second feed needed - how much?!

I've currently got freesat but want to go onto freesat +. Have just been quoted £175 to put in new lnb and second cable. This sounds a lot to me. Should I be able to get the job done cheaper?

That does sound a lot! I would like to know what a resonable charge would be. I currently have a quad lnb and would like more feeds. I'd like to know what sort of price I'd be charged to get an octo-lnb installed with some more feeds around the house. I know, I could ring up some local suppliers and ask but I never seem to get around to it

Op,would you consider the DIY price for around £20 ?

If not its just a case of shopping around

The Argos price is £ 107.79

I did it myself for about £25, most of that was the cable.
Depends I suppose on where your dish is.

I got a quad LNB on ebay for £6 - no need to spend a fortune

There are websites which will show you how to do it.

I had seen the argos price, but assumed that was for a new installation including dish. I expected that it would be much cheaper to add new cable to existing dish.

Don't especially fancy going down the DIY route!

An Octo LNB retails at typically £42. WF100 cable retails at typically £30 per 100m reel*. Labour will be around £35 an hour, dependent on your location. Add to that the cost of clips, ties, tape and any additional fees incurred if there are parking problems or if there's a long journey involved or a lot of ladder work or routing through a loft.

You can now calculate a rough estimate for your specific installation.

Obviously adding one 3 metre cable to a dish at head-height will cost a lot less than adding four 30 metre cables to a dish on a chimney!

* For DIY it's often cheaper to buy a full reel of cable. You can sell any spare cable on eBay or locally to a friend/neighbour.

I was going to go for these 'frequently bought together items';

I'd be interest on people recommending DIY options and sites.

Thanks for that. I forgot to mention, I already have the cable. I bought a reel of it when I got my Sky+ installed as it was cheaper than paying what the installer was charging for the cable.

The only thing I'm worried about is fitting the actual LNB and re-aligning it.

Provided you don't use the dish as a trapeze it should not need realigning. Occasionly the extra weight of a quad causes the lnb arm to sag very slightly more in this case a tiny tiny nudge up in elevation should fix it.

My mum and dad had this done today. They upgraded from Freesat with Sky to Freesat +. The local aerial guy charged them £80 which I thought was quite good as he made sure it was all set up and working.

They were happy.

I paid a little under £90 - the guy did a great job.

I paid £90 for dish, quad LNB and cabling (2x10m, 1x15m and 1x20m), all installed, and my existing antennas relocated onto the new mast, a local North Manchester company. Excellent job.

I paid £20 for a quad LNB and a shotgun cable and it took me 10 minutes to do. No drilling or hammering required. Just use the cable clips and hole already done for the single cable.
