She was fantastic. Nice to finally see a musical guest who's not past it.

She's wonderful, isn't she. I understand the comment about prefering an old standard, but I like the fact that she's recording new songs, that makes her new album more tempting for me, so I'd understand why she'd want to do a new song.

I mean this as no disrespect to the dancers - I love Ian and after the massive disappointment of tonight I'm happy for any chance to see him dance - but if I'm honest Bassey was the first guest I can remember for ages where I was watching them rather than the dancers.

The disco version of Moonraker, as played at the end of the film, would've been much appreciated.

I flamin' ADORE Bassey.

I would have liked her to sing 'I who have nothing'.

She did 'Diamonds on the CIN concert and was staggeringly, thrillingly awesome.

I do love a proper Diva performance.

I somehow thought I was going to be alone in my adoration of Dame Shirley - glad I'm not
How many of her era could come on a live show and perform like that?!
I have too many favourites in her repertoire to mention but it was great to hear her show the young 'uns a thing or 2 with a new song

Yes the disco version of Moonraker would have been fantastic. Perhaps it would have taken older viewers back to the disco era and at the same time been exciting and fresh for the younger audience.

Great performance by Dame Shirley.

Dame Shirley is awesome; an outstanding performer. I have seen her live and she was brilliant. When you have the likes of X Factor referring to some performances as being "World Class" (Danni referred to a singer's performance last week as that), you realise they have lost the plot. Dame Shirley really IS World Class and has been for a number of years.
I can't believe she's 72; it just shows what a brilliant singer she is, and how she's looked after her voice.
I'm just keeping my fingers crossed she goes on tour again.

A fantastic performance, and as far as I could make out, she was singing live, not miming (other "singers" please note).

In addition to her marvellous SCD performance …
there’s more for Dame Shirley Bassey fans tonight in a BBC1 documentary …
Imagine ... Dame Shirley Bassey: The Girl from Tiger Bay
BBC 1 Tuesday 24th November 2009 10.35-11.35pm

Saw her on Graham Norton and she told some good stories.

I thought the SCD song was her very own 'Je ne regrette rien'; the sort of thing you sing when you're coming to the end of your life and most of your career's behind you.

Oooh, how did I miss this thread?

Dame Shirley was magnificent on SCD - it would have been simply marvellous if she could have done two numbers - her new Gary Barlow song and one of her classics!

Now that is a 'diva'!

Yes, I agree with the OP and the general opinion here, it was indeed a great performance by Dame Shirl. And I was pleasantly surprised by the new song - I find it quite touching that Gary Barlow has written such a sensitive and resonant song for her. He's an excellent songwriter.

That said, she could have raided her back catalogue and come up with any number of showstoppers which would have been just if not even more fabulous.

Wasn't it just ! I was absolutely floored by the woman and how flipping fantastic she was on CIN. Never been very interested in her, but omg why not I ask myself ?? Look what I've been missing. Incredible performer

Loved her on Saturday and Ian and Natalie took my breath away with their tender dance. Absolutely gorgeous it was. Ian was at his very best and for a brief while, I loved Natalie too while they performed, I was that swept away. That's the power of dance though and why I love it

I got that feeling too.
She's brilliant, and every song I've heard from her while she's been promoting this new album has been awesome.

I think she'd like to go out on a high, while she still can rather than drag on indefinitely till she becomes a shadow of her former self.

Andy Williams, Bruce Forsyth and Ronnie Corbett could learn a thing or two from that attitude.

Watched the "imagine" programme last night, really interesting to see how she put her own interpretation on the songs. Great viewing Gary Barlow writes great songs also liked the one that the Manic Street Preachers did.
Did anyone else watch it?

I watched her docu last night, she just a woman who's really born to sing and she even almost cried when she heard self her song , after the rain is a such a beautiful song. The song writer self even not believed that he's cried like a baby to hear she sing after the rain. I love her version of the girl of tiger bay
