I have heard the judges say to Jamie, Rachel, Lucie and Danyl

'you have to make the song your own'

Yet Joe sings his songs just like the original recordings

I think he sounds the same every week, no doubt he is a good vocalist but he isnt original

at least Rachel, Jamie ect, ect sung out of their comfort zones and not like a kareoke version of them

You wouldn't have been far off even if you had.

Im bumping this because I really want to know why Joe is never asked to make a song his own like the others

Is it fair that he doesnt have to but others do

I sort of agree actually. He's technically fantastic, but he doesn't do anything particularly special with any song he performs. That's one of the reasons I find him a bit of a snore-fest.

He reminds me of John Barrowman but without the personality

maybe he is never told because he always does make the song his own, or maybe he just does a perfect rendition?

A bit like why he is never told that was a bad performance or why you never get posts on here asking why he can't sing.

There are karaoke singers, those who just sing anything well and those who make songs their own (which means someone arranged the music to fit their vocals normally) because they have to because their vocals aren't up to the original arrangement....oh and rappers with backing tracks.

because if the other acts had to sing the same as the original everyone would see that they were awful.

Maybe because the best way to sing the songs he is given is the way the original artist did them.

Give him original material and he'll make it "his own".

Okay, you probably won't agree with this, and seeing as I'm a big Joe fan everyone will come along and tell me I'm a biased fool, BUT you asked for an opinion so here you are

I think Joe is never given the 'You need to make the song your own' speech because in a way...he always does without having to be told to
I know a lot of people find him boring (I fail to see why, each to their own I guess), I love his performances, for me they're always full of emotion and honesty, his voice is pure and beautiful and his vocals are 99% flawless. I have never sat and felt absolutely nothing after Joe has sung. While he hasn't dramatically changed a song arrangement, slowed it down, sped it up or made some other obvious change in order to 'make it his own', he doesn't need to...the fact that he can reach out to people with his voice and his talent is enough to do just that

*waits to be told I'm a soppy git lol*

I don't know why he is never told to make the song his own, as if he did we may see a far better side of Joe, right now he seems to just copy the original which is not to say he cannot sing, but I would prefer to see Joe be Joe on these songs.

He comes over as bland and forgettable half the time, and I think that has to do with the fact he has not stamped his version on any song so far since his audition. I really like Joe I think he can sing, but not sure I would buy a CD of covers of him sounding like the original, who I may already have the CD of.

Nice lad, but really for me needs to be more original now. He lacks emotion or connecting with the lyrics for me as well.

That's exactly how I have described him (except I said he was John Barrowman without the sex factor, lol)
