fill in the extra week they have now got in this years series?

What about a special featuring the finalists from all the series since 2004?

They won't have an extra week to fill, they will just blunder on regardless, on to a two-couple final.

Of course, they had plenty of opportunity to think about this scenario (after all, it seems to happen most years), and could have

a) asked the last ejected couple to train as if they had not been eliminated to take the place of Jade last night

b) Elected to have no elimination this week, and carry over all votes/scores to next week.

But no. Far to simple to do that. Let's make the final a bit more mundane, let's ensure that another good couple will fail to get through, let's flog the final two couples to death by making them dance more times in the final to fill out the show.

They may do what they did last year and put the last three through from the Semifinal ................ Surprise!

Perhaps the BBC will invoke the 'reinstate the last person to leave' option that's in the rules, now that Jade has definitely gone - that would be Ricky G.

His departure last night was low key - no comments by the judges as they put Laila through, no tears as Ricky and Erin went - I wouldn't be surprised if they're brought back.....

ANYTHING except a two-person final. Oh, sigh.

Amazing that yet again - and with a week's notice - the BBC didn't have a contingency plan.

Why couldn't they have gone through the dance off (cruel I know) and then just say "great news, no-one is going home!"

Then there would have still been six next week.

I mean, what happens if someone else gets injured? A one person final?

They should have eliminated Jade straight away and carried everyone forward with their scores and votes last week. The favouritism towards some injured dancers is nonsensical and potentially very unfair.

The best way of salvaging the situation is to have no elimination next week. Neither a two-way final nor putting one of the losers back in is credible for me.

I'd rather they did something now, rather than have a quick spare of the moment action plan during the semi-final. Or even worse do nothing and leave us with a two person final - that means the return of "Judges Choice" probably aswell which is truely pointless.

Either invite Ricky G back, or skip a week and pass on the votes. Preferably the first one as only 5 dances this week is going to make it a bit short.

It seems to me that it was pretty clear last week that Jade wouldn't dance again - she's in training for the Olympics for heaven's sake, she'd be mad to risk permanent damage for a TV show!

In which case, the BBC had plenty of time to come up with a credible plan, and no elimination last night would seem to be the simplest and least traumatic for the dancers???

If they allow a two couple final after the years of experience they've had, it 'll show they really don't care much for their audience - or the competitors if it comes to that!

Totally with you on scenario a) - Phil had more to offer, 3 couple final wuld be on - a win win situation. But no

Why don't they have no elimination next week - as they are new dances, then they will be back on track. This way no-one will have an advantage of getting through on a dance other celebs have already have had to dance or they could carry over the votes if the following week they then do the other new dance.
But this won't work if they have to do two dances each next week.

There should have been no elimination last week , or rather had Phil and Katya learn a dance for this week and be able to dance at very short notice .

The BBC won't do anything , they never have before and lastt year was a fluke .

I like your idea too skimpy_scampi

Why not move up the final of the series a week early, and then give the pros and celebs a week to recover before the Christmas special?

They already are not dancing two dances a week, so they are really running out of ammo...

I do hope you are right.

As I've said before ...when it happened before ..the BBC should take a leaf out if the DWTS rule book on this.

No elimination next week, but all votes are carried forward to the next week.

Works perfectly and makes for very exciting viewing, because on DWTS they still do the 'Moment of Truth' bit, so the bottom two couples know they are in a weak position going forward.

The Christmas special used to be filmed beforehand. It certainly does not go out live.

Apart from that, there would be a gap in the schedule to fill.

As I have said before I don't think they can bring anyone back after they have been voted off as they would then have to offer to give the money back to all those who voted. As I'm sure some will complain that they wasted their money etc voting.

But we're voting to save not to eliminate, so they probably wouldn't have to give the money back.

The BBC have left themselves a loophole anyway. This is from the terms and conditions of voting, as stated on the BBC's SCD website:

There are a number of contingencies which could occur during or before each show, as with any other live television programme. Contingencies cover withdrawal of any celebrity, professional dancer or judge for health reasons or other unforeseen circumstances or outside the control of the BBC. The remedial actions may include, but not be limited to changing the format of the show, including, removing, substituting or adding professional dancers and or judges; and cancelling, suspending or altering voting at any time. In the event of any contestant leaving the competition at any point prior to the quarter finals, the BBC will decide on whether to reinstate previous contestants i.e. the person with the highest score eliminated from the previous episode or equivalent, or to take other actions in accordance with the BBC's contingency plans as it deems necessary and appropriate to the circumstances.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/strictlycomedan...t/voting.shtml

That information is easily accessible for anyone who chooses to look, so the BBC has covered themselves, should they bring back a previously eliminated contestant.

It could well be that next week, they apply the DWTS rule and carry all votes forward, but they won't tell us until the end of the show. Having two new dances may ensure decent ratings (though I personally am not so certain), so they won't want to jeopardise that by saying in advance that it's a "no contest" week.

They would have a probem doing this because of all the phone votes cast. The BBC would have to reinburse all who phoned last night.

I think the fact that thousands of people would have wasted their money trying to save people when everyone was safe would have a slight problem. I don't want a two-person final either, but you can't start having phone votes that count for nothing just to avoid it. Of all the suggestion, the only one I think is at all credible is rolling over the scores across two weeks.

Wasn't that what happened last year, in effect? I remember voting for someone and being really hacked off when they said, Tough, they're all going through anyway.

Except that people don't vote off anyone, they vote to retain couples.

Well, in a way you got the desired result, in that your chosen coupke was saved (and so did everyone else who voted).
