I don't see what Chris Hollins has in common with Darren Gough at all.

Personality win over far superior dancers.

Darren Gough by the end was a better dancer than Chris Hollins, and Erin did rather damn Colin's chances with that awful showdance.

Darren could dance well. His marks were closer, his average is over 30 and its arguable if Patsy would have had more marks than chris that series, if you allow a bit for lower marks then. He had a strong journey story. He did better in some ways in the final.

Not sure if Zoe attracted quite the same female reasons for not voting for her. Zoe was a past wild child, Ali is too nice for them. Both are southern and sound middleclass and look balletic.

Chris is pretty unique. Most series have several better males above him in the ability order who either get to the last 4 on ability or because they are very close to the standard and have something else. This one just has Ricky W and then a gap and then Chris and Chris just doesn't have the marks. The nearest ones historically to him on marks may be people like Ray and James - who went by now.

The difference is, Chris is not a good a dancer as Darren and definitely doesn't deserve to win.

I think Zoe's unpopularity was much more marked than the general feeling towards Ali- Ali has only been in the dance-off once, people don't seem to hate her. You should have seen some of the threads about Zoe in series three

Zoe basically couldn't do anything right for the public. The judges overmarked her latin, she got one of Bruno's punch-the-air "I don't care that you made a mistake, TEN!" moments, she got a bit of a cold and then claimed she had flu, she constantly talked over Ian... it didn't seem to matter how well she danced, people were not going to vote for her. I don't get that feeling with Ali.

Darren was also more of a surprised to the GBP- he had a journey in attitude as well as in improvement. He looked too tubby to be able to move well, and he turned out to have a good sense of rhythm and performance (/showing off ). He came across as someone who would never take it seriously, but he became really involved in it. He started off "hoping his dance partner wouldn't fall for him", and ended up having a genuine partnership with Lilia. And the two of them never once talked about winning or getting tens.
