I don't know if this has been mentioned in another thread. I couldn't find one but it I didn't have a particularly thorough look. I honest to goodness registered on this site purely to rant about this Anyway, my question is.........

WHY DOES LOUIS KEEP EITHER BREAKING HIS OWN STUPID RULES OR DOING THINGS THAT, IF ANOTHER JUDGE DID, HE WOULD SAY THEY WERE BREAKING THE RULES?

During Rock week, I'm pretty sure he had Jedward doing the Five cover of Queen's We Will Rock You. (I'm not an expert, but the twins definitely sang the line "We've got Queen on this track" which I think was on Five's version) The same week, Cheryl was 'cheating' for having Lloyd do a rock mix of a pop song (I Kissed a Girl). A rock mix is against the rules, but a pop cover of a rock song isn't???? Also in rock week, he told someone (Jamie I think) that they weren't a rock singer by Kerrang standards. I watch the Kerrang music channel quite often, and I don't recall ever having seen Five on it!!!! Or Queen for that matter, but I may be wrong about that.

In Big Band week, Simon was cheating for giving Jamie Angel of Harlem by U2 when it was supposed to be retro music (Louis's own words). Surely that song is a lot more 'retro' than She Bangs by Ricky Martin!!!???!!! He also said that it was a rock song, so that was against the rules too. Yet he said nothing about Rachel singing a Creedence Clearwater Revival song. I know she wasn't one of his acts, but still...

Last week, Jedward went into Ice Ice Baby in the middle of Under Pressure. This week it was the Wham rap during I'm Your Man. What do you think Louis would say if Simon had one of his acts do a mash up of two songs? Dannii even mentioned it in her comments last week, and he dismissed her, saying something like it didn't matter because they did it...brilliantly, I think was the word he used. (They didn't )

I think there have been other examples, but I can't think of them right now. Plus I'm kinda fed up of thinking about Louis now as this is the third time I've written this out after accidentally deleting it twice.

Any hoo, rant over. I feel better now

It's all just a joke. Louis is not being serious. It's just semi-scripted banter between the judges.

Sorry if this appears twice ... I think I just fell on my keyboard and now I've lost my reply.

Anyway, I was saying it's just a bit of fun -- a bit of banter between the judges. Louis is not being serious.

I agree - its just a role that Louis has adopted to make the TV fun. This is what people expect Louis to do so he does not disappoint them. They expect him to play this character each week.

I know how you feel. Louis is the biggest 'village idiot' on TV. The idiot says its fine to have a vanilla ice rap during Queen week, but takes a dig at Joe for singing 'don't let the sun go down on me' was an elton john song.....talk about contradicting yourself

One week he has a go at Olly for having dancers and lights when his stupid act are doing this every single week and don;t do anything different!

And just because you don't know a film does it 'break the rules' if the song is still from a film!!

And sticking 2 fingers up at the crowd is just so unprofessional, jedward show more professionalism than this idiot

The idiot has no idea about rock music in the slightest, nor about most music...just his little westlife boys world. He is so deluded and stupid its getting quite funny now

I agree- I had a bet on he would make that Elton John remark to Joe- so did Joe by the sounds of things as he was not surprised- it was so obvious that he would say that

Louis and Simon want Joe in the final so it was harmless banter to distract from how mediocre the actual performances were tonight

My Mum said during Joe's performance Louis would bring out the rulebook. I think it's hilarious.

It may well be semi scripted for the character he plays but I stil find it incredibly annoying and wish they would cut it out.

Or least be consistent with what he thinks is or isn't against the rules!

I'm with the OP!

I was literally screeching at the TV when his muppets jumped between two Wham! songs.

So it's okay for Louis and his pets to cheat or break the "rule book" but not anyone else.....

Its all one big in joke - but if you have themes you should stick to them otherwise don't have themes.

Joe's song tonight was suitable for an Elton John week - not a George Michael one.

But hasn't it always been songs recorded by the artist, not written by them. Didn't someone sing Without You in Mariah Carey week last year.

I'm glad you feel better Louis will say whatever he's told to say. He's clearly doing that because he was asked to play that role. Making viewers angry is good for ratings and for votes!

On the flip-side: Why have silly themes if you are not going to stick to them?

(and that applies to all of them)

You can't have a theme and then stretch it to the point of absurdity.

Louis has made a right fool of himself again but in a way he was right when he pointed out that George Michael hadn't sung "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" alone. It was recorded as a duet.
However his pettiness is quite comical in my opinion.

George Michael week = George Michael songs
Elton John week = Elton John songs

Not rocket science is it?

If there is a theme, stick with it, otherwise why bother. Pathetic really.
