Just noticed one of the comments on the video:

Quote:
“Cheryl, you were flat.”

Maybe so but why not give constructive criticism to some of the others who sang poorly...

Can Simon or Louis sing? NO, they don't need to as they are judges and so is Mrs Cole, that is why people that make these topics are morons.

No need for that

I agree with Dannii, I think she's right when she said Danyl is trying too hard.

Danyl does sing flat . . . .

He was sh*t last week & sh*t last nite . . .

A haircut ain't gonna change that, surprisingly enough . . . .

It's over for him now, he's too uptight, he's disappeared up his own bum !

I've just listened to Danyl again and he was better than I thought he was last night - and I thought he was very good then.

There are a few slightly off moments, and one note which might have been deliberate, but all in all it was very good indeed, and in tune.

None of them were perfect last night, even Joe was a bit uncertain a couple of times and he has perfect pitch. Olly, particularly, was seriously out of tune, painfully so.

The thing is with Cheryl is that she seems to loathe Danyl and her criticisms come across as harsh and personal and out of proportion to the 'offence'. I don't think Danyl could ever please her, whatever he did.

I actually think that Cheryl's comments reflect the majority of comments in here....according to alot of people (me included) he had problems with his tuning in first part of the song in particular, but that if there was one redeeming point, it was the way he performed the song.....which she did go on to compliment him on

He did sound flat but rescued his performance somewhat , however giving someone credit for singing half a song reasonably ok isn't really enough . I mean Joe's voice is so musical theatre which I find off putting but he still wiped the floor with Danyl .

Whether you like it or not, her job is to judge. And she was spot on, he was off key at the start. Get over it.

Why do people say "musical theatre" as if it is not so difficult as being a pop singer? Musical theatre is one of the most difficult arts to master. Singing, dancing and acting - and for eight performances a week!

Erm, whatever you think of Cheryl Cole, you're wrong to say that she *thinks* he's flat.

She just heard what everybody else with proper hearing heard: Danyl sings flat at the top and bottom of his phrases.

Thank you.

Actually I think Louis said but, of course, he's right. (Or whomever said it.)

I mean, Careless Whisper didn't became a huge international hit sounding like a fake, emotional monotone.

Despite the dark content of the song, George Michael delivered a silky, sensual performance that made you feel the heat between the sheets.

Danyl was just a dull, buzz kill by comparison. It's just had no movement or even a sway to it. I mean, who's bright idea was it to cut the saxophone from Careless Whisper? The mind boggles.

Phrase = musical sentence.

What do you mean - does he sing out of tune at the top and bottom of every phrase he sings but ok in the middle? Are you sure you know what you are on about?

I think Cheryl has every right to point out when a singer is flat - irrespective of whether she is a decent singer or not. I don't think the judges have to be great singers to be good judges, however I do think it is a bit hypocritical to point out Daniel singing flat, when there is at least 2 other acts that sing flatter - and that is Lloyd & Jedward - she never tells them that they are flat.

I don't like Danyl ( not sure why, there's just something about him), but I like fairness, and it just seems a bit unfair to point out his vocal inadequacies, when the same thing doesn't get pointed out to the others.

I think Danyl's been consistently off key at various points in his performances since week 1, but despite his performances last week and this week still not being perfect, I thought he was very much improved (especially after he took those ear pieces out this week, it had been a ropey start before that).

I'm still not a fan of his and don't think he's as great as the show's narrative would have it, but I was impressed this week.

LOL lets be fair none of the judges can sing

To be fair, if after your first audition you get told "That was the best audition ever" etc and stuff, I don't blame Danyl for getting carried away (if he did, some are insuating he believes his own hype).

Soneil, thanks, I thought it was Dannii who said that

Ooh, I'm a musician too, and I say he was in tune.

Mind you I spent years arguing with people about Bjork. In the end I just gave up and left them to their ignorance.

Typically when he's flat it's at the beginning of the phrase, then it straightens out a bit and ends flat when he comes off the phrase. He sort of warbles into it and warbles out of it.

Singing is about the balance between regulating your breath and anchoring vowels; he's not properly trained so with him it's hit or miss. He doesn't start properly which is why he's flat and if he doesn't use his breath to support the end of his phrases, he goes flat.

He also has a lot of affectations that get in his way.

Okay, you have to at least elaborate a little here - are you pro or anti Bjork?

Oh good god. Did you get that from The News Of The World Big Book of Vomit Inducing Cliches?

I hope you kept the receipt.
