How do the questions and the callers that go on the 'board' on ITV2 Xtra Factor get on the programme so quickly, especially the bit where they say they've only got 20 seconds to phone, text or email?!

I wish someone would go on there and ask about THE ORDER OF APPEARANCE every week.... like for instance, do they put the 'weaker' or 'less favoured' guys on first and people like Joe on at the end?

I've not heard anyone ask about this and I think those on at or towards the end seem to do better in the voting than the guys on in the first three!!!! What do other people on here think?

I should think people who call in speak to a panel of backroom researchers first who can gauge whether they're coherent, have an interesting question or are likely to be abusive.

The researchers probably weed out all those people with questions we'd actually like to know the answer to such as the running order and why the sound engineering is so bad!

The order of appearance does seem to make a difference. Maybe it has more to do with stage sets, lighting and the amount of dancers, choirs and props on stage.

Perhaps someone who knows how to submit a question to the panel, could call in on the pretext of asking something else (that the researchers or panel would agree to) and then once on air, ask about the running order and surprise Simon and Co because I suspect they already know exactly what those questions are going to be about irrespective of the 'title' on the board for them to choose from!

Does anyone have a list of the running orders from each week so we can see if being on early or late in the show makes a difference to the voting? Re the previous message -- stage sets, lighting and the amount of dancers, choirs and props on stage -- maybe one week they can all just stand alone to sing and have no props, no dancers and identical lighting!

There's nothing to stop you doing that, but they will cut you off or change the subject pretty sharpish if they don't like the question...!

But how do you make the initial contact in the beginning because I watch to the end of XFactor on ITV and by the time I have got a drink and switched channels to ITV2, the questions are on the board and I've not known how you get the questions to the show!

ChristmasCake was on stand-by to ask a question yesterday and I think it was arranged about a week in advance. They probably find out the callers general views and whther they will be coherent and articulate then the questions are decided nearer the time. CC said he had to do a rehearsal call the afternoon before the show started too, so it's carefully organised.

Yeah - there was a short thread about the callers a little while back. They select you if they think you'll sound OK & confident. But then you get fed the question to ask - not even your question. And you have to wait for ages. And then not get used.

Just as much a fix as all other aspects of this 'contest'. No surprise there then .

The Xfactor people phone you back if they want to use you, generally its for the week after you call.

the 20 seconds is how long they have to state their question - not how long they have to get in touch

It's to do with ratings and happens with every TV show.

First performance will usually be uptempo, energetic, bright and colourful.

When popular programmes on other channels finish, a good/popular/much talked about act will be put on to try and attract some channel hoppers.

Good/popular/much talked about acts are stacked towards the end so as viewers stick with the show as long as possible (think of supermarkets with bread and milk).

The final act "brings the house down" (think any concert you've ever been to or any televised concert).

They also attempt to split things up a bit so as you don't get several ballads in a row followed by several uptempos.

If asked on Xtra Factor, they would probably just brush it away and say the producers decide and it depends on things like stage props and so on.

why has not one question been about the degenerating audience of jeremy kyle rejects who have ruined the show to the point where you cant hear anything at home.

I was hoping the question that would be asked was about making it more current!

I do love the whole question bit though... Simon is hilarious.
