Am I the only one who doesn't get the whole Joe thing? He has a bland personality, a generic voice and no stage presence. His performances all look painfully contrived and I just don't see what anyone else sees in him. His voice IS good but nothing special IMO. I think out of the final 6, he will have the shortest shelf life as a successful artist.

You only need to look for other threads on the forum to see that indeed you are not the only one, rather than make yet another thread about it.

Sorry, this is the first time I came on here this series and couldn't be arsed to search through pages of threads. Thanks for your input though, appreciated.

I totally agree, I don't see what was different about last night in comparison to every other night. Bland bland bland.

I wouldn't say Joe has a bland personality, he seems like a lovely boy to me. I would say he has a strong, beautiful voice rather than a generic one. As for stage presence, that will come when he is more experienced. And I don't think his performances are contrived at all, they come from the heart.

I agree with this BUT, BUT, BUT Joe trills too much. Far too much vibrato. Spoils it somewhat for me.

I agree that he is dull and bland but he is marginally more talented vocally than most of the other karoake acts that make up the show this year and easier to listen to than Danyl ...

I would say he has a distinctive voice. A voice you can easily identify. Someone like Olly has a generic voice.

Hate his vibrato. But he's got a lovely voice... it just doesn't do anything for me. I would never buy his music, but I would go and see him on stage in the West End if that's the route he took, I think he'd be amazing on stage. I'd find his music very boring though. He's got the look of a popstar but just don't think he's got the voice or the personality.

I agree with you about Olly's voice but at least Olly gives some personality to his performances (sometimes too much). When I know Joe is next I think "Oh here we go...yawn!"

I also think Cheryl destroys him for me by calling him "Little Joe"

I'd love if Joe was in Louis' category...he'd camp him up and have a bit of fun with him Cheryl's just a crap mentor.

Yep he's made for West End, I'd say that's where his future lies.

He can sing competently in a poor year where many don't even fulfil that basic requirement, he's cute in a non-threatning sort of way and he smiles a lot.

I understand why he's popular with certain people, I just don't agree.

A vibrato and a trill are actually different lol. Although very similar.

Joe has the best voice in the competition by miles. His performance last night was the performance of the competition so far. Where was the stage presence missing? I do wish people hadn't taken to confusing prancing around the stage aimlessly and rhythmlessly with stage presence thanks to the clown who had his ridiculous audition overpraised by Simon for his own ends to get attention for the show in the US. If you have stage presence, you can command an audience by performing for two hours without moving away from your mic stand.

How are his performances contrived when they are clearly what comes to him at the moment that he is singing the lyric? No over-rehearsed moves or gestures.

I think of the final six he is the only one with merest sniff at a recording career. His look is 100% pop star and his voice is pure pop. Basically a producer's dream. J&E will have a career with novelty singles and possibly TV presenting. The attention they have already garnered will assure them that in the short term. Olly is Robbie Williams-lite at a time when Robbie Williams' act has become old hat. Lloyd is Leon with a weaker voice. Stacey has a chance given the right songs and for as long as her personality doesn't become overwhelmingly annoying. Danyl has had every chance, including being shown on US TV and the reaction was extremely negative.

He's very similar to David Archuleta from American Idol. Attitude, musical style even song choices.

Neither of them are really my cup of tea, but Joe is probably the best singer this year. I think Archuleta's a lot more talented overall though.

Here's his version of Don't Let The Sun...

The whole "Joe thing" - as you call it - is about a young lad who doesn't make any fuss at all, goes out there week after week and really sings (pitch perfect) and keeps in time... and has a really good tone of voice. None of the the others have that combination - although Stacey comes the closest.

Let me guess... do you favour J&E by any chance?

Joe has the best male vocal in the competition and has received underwhelming praise week on week, when he's easily been the most consistent performer out there, until now. He's been quietly progressing through the competition and I think that has a lot to do with this workman-like attitude off-stage, which isn't his fault by any means.

Cowell mentioned his non-nonsense approach to rehearsals last night, and he seems like quite a laidback, do what he's told kind of lad, which is perfect for any record label owner.

He goes relatively unnoticed because he doesn't generate publicity by doing anything outrageously positive or negative, and no fuss is created on song selection, choreography or vocal technique : he just quietly goes about his business and gets enough of the vote to progress. As he doesn't get the press, people don't get to see much of a personality and have nothing to bicker about or discuss.

I couldn't disagree more. Joe is not "pure pop". He can sing well but he doesn't have a pop voice at all, in my opinion at least. He's very stage school, and I'm sure he will have a CD out at some point whether he wins or not, but I think he'd excel in the West End... and maybe only bring out one album around Mothers Day or Christmas where it would sell well.
