Just because she is an not over-the-top attention seeker does not mean she does not have a personality.”

I agree with you totally samiskin. Unfortunately we live in a time when personalities such as Jade Goody and Katie Price appeal to the masses and dominate magazines/TV/forum messageboards so it doesn't really surprise me that a more dignified Ali doesn't appeal across the board.

I'm not saying anyone who doesn't get Ali loves Jade and Katie (before i get jumped on) but i do think that a lot people expect a certain amount of 'in your face OTTness' before they consider them to even have a personality these days.

I understand your frustration with that thread, particularly as I know who started it, but I find it disappointing that your response was to start a similar thread attacking someone else (who incidentally the person who started the Natalie thread isn't supporting anyway, so it doesn't get back at them), rather than starting "Natalie isn't at all irritating" thread.

Is it no better to start threads on subjects you wish to debate rather than trying to get back at people Jan?

The OP started this thread as a reaction to your anti-Natalie thread, so presumably to some extent it was an attempt on their part to get back at you.

You don't start threads because you wish to debate them. You start negative threads to wind people up, and then when people criticise you for it you act hurt and claim that all you wanted was a nice debate. It's so obviously transparent and utterly tedious.

I don't find Natalie, Ali, or any of the other contestants from this series irritating to be honest, and as I said before I find it disappointing that people feel the need to start such threads.

OP - I don't know how you can call Ali smug. If anything she seems quite timid to me and more than happy to take judges comments on board, unlike some of the others.

IMO - Ali comes across quite well i the training VT's and we (me and the OH) have frequently said - if some of the personaility from the training footage were to come across on a saturday night - then she would have it in the bag. As it is she comes across as a bit "something and nothing" on a saturday - she really needs to show the public her personality and stop coming across as soooo bland and boring

Ali injures her foot. Does the dance, is stunned to find she's in the DO, but cleans up her bloody feet, puts on soft shoes and gets on with it a second time.

The following Tuesday on ITT Claudia asks if her foot will be all right for Saturday. Ali's reply; "it'll have to be all right, won't it".

Now compare Laila and her sprain, also on ITT the following week. Which one is the wet wimp?

Some of you have got Ali so, so wrong.

Couldn't agree more- I have to say that before the series my impression of Ali was based soley on her Hollyoaks/ lad mags type stuff and I am more than willing to say how wrong I was. I find her so different and I think that she is very nervous every show day and thats what makes her come over less well than when on ITT. (Does that all make sense?!)

I find her and Brian on ITT really entertaining and I don't FF their interviews like I do some others

It baffles me too Tony why people object to a quiet and not loud and not in your face nice girl .But such is TV life now that the odious Jordon will grab headlines .
Alli may not be bubbly and bouncy , but a nice gentle girl who can dance beautifully and who I enjoy very much

Well at least the person who started the Natalie Cassidy thread could spell irritating.

Well said. She has lots of admirable qualities and I certainly don't find her wet! Quite the opposite!

In VTs, Ali comes across as having a great personality - with some dignity too, unusual enough in our OTT media days, as other posters have pointed out. On the dancefloor, she looks beautiful - but I have to say the personality just doesn't feel um... projected enough.

It is very obvious to me that Ali has had EXTENSITVE ballet training and I t hink that is such an unfair advantage in Strictly. The constant need for Strictly to invent a couple "who are in love"...... as a publicity stunt gets on my nerves. Surely rather than hinting about their "relationship" they could come out and confirm or deny it!! I remember the James Martin and Camilla "romance" which was fake from beginning to end as she was living with her boyfriend at the time but it was constantly referred to on Strictly and It Takes Two but never confirmed or denied until in a recent interview James Martin admitted it was just a PR stunt. It got them headline after headline and that was the point. Rather like what is happening now with the "lovebirds" Ali and Brian. I know it is not her fault if Strictly PR want to present her like this but it gets on my nerves as it is taking the public for complete idiots. Who cares anyway??? I agree Brian is a bit odd with those eyebrows!!

That's exactly what this forum has become over the last couple of weeks. I don't know if there's simply nothing left on the show worthy of serious discussion or if the more small-minded forum members are also the most vocal, but this place just seems to have disintegrated into a meeting place for people to slag off anyone within range.

It's a real shame, there always used to be at least couple of lively and interesting discussions running at any one time, but now it's just "she's a bitch", "she's out of order", "he's arrogant", "get rid of him / her / them". At the risk of channeling CRH, it's all very dull dahling

How Irratating Is Ali Bastian

I dont find Ali the least bit irritating, what I do find is that she seems devoid of a personality, plus she is dancing with one my least favourite pro's. I think she has a good chance of winning without my vote and good luck to her.

Brian doesn't need to confirm anything. Any man who uses his partner's neck as a comforter for mouth and cheek at every opportunity is not hinting at, but revealing something.

If Ali feels the same way but is more reticent, perhaps she should consider that if she lets all her feelings show during a dance, it'll give conviction to the dance itself (as well as promoting the sales of Kleenex among the GBP).

Save it for the semi-final, dear, and then blow Brian's mind! Passport to final - stamped.

I would KILL for the chance to study Jane Austen in English Lit. Absolutely LOVE her novels (hate the Brontes though, esp Wuthering Heights!) Austen only had one soppy heroine: Fanny Price. No way could anyone call Elizabeth Bennett or Emma Woodhouse "soppy". Now Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre - stubborn, humourless and far more irritating than Ali Bastian could ever hope to be!

I can't see anything not to like about Ali, and for anyone who is annoyed by her quietness and "lack of personality", please let me assure you that if I were a celeb and on Strictly, you would not be able to cope with many weeks of my "larger than life" personality! Luckily my crap dancing would soon see me either booted off the show or buried under the patio by my professional partner!

I liked Ali more this week strange enough but this maybe because Phil and Jade have gone out.

Don' t find Ali irritating, but do find posters who can't spell (responce???), extremely irritating. And I know, I know, they will all say they are dyslexic instead of just admitting that their grammar and spelling are poor.

How very sad that you feel that way ,I reserve my irritation for more important things than someone hitting the wrong key on a keyboard .
And you would do well to understand that not all posters are native English speakers and even those who are are not perfect .
