Kelly Brook
Hi Everyone!
I am a relatively new Strictly fan- started watching properly last year and love it!! I have been catching up on previous dances on You Tube recently ![]() I was wondering how popular Kelly Brook was in the year she was dancing- the dances I have seen are amazing. Would she have been popular enough to have a real shot at winning if she hadnt pulled out?? |

Well I much preferred Kelly to Alesha that year but I think I was in a minority.
Spectacular costumes she was given too (nearly everything was pretty much 1940's based) I remember a buttermilk yellow that was stunning and her AS dress was stunning too. Loved her partnership with Brendan as well. I remember her Paso being a bit rubbish but everything else she did just exuded class, glamour and style whereas to me, Alesha was all brash and noise with her hair always flying around untamed. |

Well she was one of the most hysterically over-criticised celebs ever to take part on the show. A lot of it was bitchy, unpleasant and uncalled-for...especially in view of what subsequently transpired.
My hunch is that she wasn't popular enough to actually win herself...but that Gethin would have won if she hadn't pulled out. |

She was an amazing dancer, better than Alesha at the time IMO, but was disliked (the same as Lisa last year) meaning that she was never going to win. Although I think it was slightly down to Brendan who seemed to fuel the arogance of the couple and was backed up during the American Smooth when they broke the rules and backstage said "Nevermind, no-one talks to us anyway (or words to that effect)".
At the end of the day she never would have won the show but did some amazing dances, such as her Viennese Waltz, American Smooth and Jive and was a shame that she had to pull out .Looking forward to her in the tour anyway .

Well I thought Kelly was great but she was well and truly slated on the forum by a significant number of FMs...I tried to defend her honour a few times but was myself subjected to a severe internet bashing...At times it felt more like the BB forum
...Strangely; considering the flak she received when on the show, her Jive with Brian on last years Christmas special was well received and many felt she should have won......I could go on about the hostility directed towards Kelly but it`s history now and I don`t fancy being bashed by her detractors again....yes it was that bad at times....and don`t let others kid you that it was all constructive criticism...it was`t...it was plain nasty at times.

Saw her jive on the Christmas Special - really great. You would have to separate the dancer from the personality,.though, to vote for her, because she seems a bit hyper.

I can imagine people being horrible about her on here like some above mentioned it. I never watched her or was a member on DS when she was on so i have no idea but tbh there are many people on this forum who will slate anything just for the fun for it.

Yes she definitely would have had a shot at winning. If she'd stayed it would have been between her & Alesha. Knowing reality TV tho' I think Alesha would still have won.
There was a lot of bitching about her on here - but there always is about contestants who are good-looking & relatively successful - Lisa, Rachel, Ricky W etc. These forums attract a lot of unhappy types - there's a lot of jealousy & bitterness & I don't think it's representative of the SCD audience as a whole. |

Having said that, she was streets ahead of Alesha as a dancer that year, both technically and in terms of presentation. Had she been able to continue after her dad's sad death I think she would have picked up a lot of sympathy as well as deserved votes for her dancing and it certainly would have changed the dynamics of the final. |

really didn't like her at all - fortunately for her, we don't vote in Ireland...........but she defied biology by managing to dance while her cranium was in her posterior

Streets ahead of Alesha as a dancer - then Kelly would also be better than Jill Haflpenny, which would mean, all-in-all, she would be the best dancer EVER on SCD, better as well than Rachel Stevens. Did the judges like her ? Give her good marks/comments ?

The year that Kelly was in the show was the first series of SCD that I watched and I'd never heard of her before watching the show, so I didn't have any preconceptions about her dancing/personality etc etc. But I just couldn't get myself to like her and was left underwhelmed by her dances (but, of course, that's just down to personal taste). Also, in the VT's and interview bits on the result shows and ITT, I felt that she came across as a little arrogant and whiny and some of her comments really irritated me.
I'm sure she's a nice enough person in reality, but I couldn't warm to her |

Is that a question?....if so then the answer is yes.She had one bad week and that was because she`d spent the week with her dying Father.....Len gave her a really hard time after a pretty tame Jive(I think it was the Jive) although to be fair he was probably unaware that she`d spent the week with her Father instead of training.....I always felt that if she`d wanted to the BBC could have asked her to return the following year....However the forum would have gone apoplectic if that had happened.
She also had a bit of a rough time from... definitely Arlene but maybe from others about her Paso, if I remember correctly. Other than that, her dances were good and the judges seemed to like them. |

It was horribly sad about Kelly's father. Just before her last appearance there was an interview with her and Brendan on ITT from which, I can't remember why, I got the feeling she wanted to go. The judges could quite reasonably have saved John Barnes, who had taken on board their comments and improved in the dance-off, but he'd been there a couple of times before and they didn't. And with the wretched dance-off she couldn't just have danced once and virtually asked viewers not to vote for her, she'd have had to either dance twice that night or come back the following week.
The judges did like her, but she'd never have won. Brendan had made his three previous partners miserable and alienated a large chunk of the audience. The week they performed a dance with illegal lifts, they were possibly only saved from the dance-off by the ludicrous 10 Bruno gave them. That series the BBC had deliberately recruited a glamorous line-up, which I think backfired on them a bit in that the more "normal" women, Kate (aided by a massive sympathy vote) and Letitia, were the ones who initially pulled in the votes. Without Matt di Angelo's meltdown Kelly might have got to the final, but would probably have come third after Gethin and Alesha (in either order), whether it was fair or not. |

I could never warm to Kelly. She was an excellent dancer, I could see that. But she was far too arrogant and overly competitive for my liking. I remember the "no one talks to us anyway" comment and it seemed rude and unnessecary. I always got the impression that she wasnt well liked by the other celebs and that she's not really a girls girl.
It was very sad when her dad died though, and she actually went up in my estimations as it was obvious she'd kept how ill he was quiet because she didnt want the sympathy vote. |

one reason they would not have asked her back is because of the length she stayed in the series if she had left within the first 4 weeks maybe but she stayed up untill week 8 so she would have had a major advantage on the other celebs

I never thought that Kelly was that great a dancer during the series she took part in. She was good, but I always thought Alesha was miles ahead in terms of talent. Then I saw her dance that Christmas Jive with Brian, and I changed my mind, she was fantastic. I don't know if he was a better teacher than Brendan, or they just got on better, but I was really surprised

I think, very simply, most agreed that she was a great dancer but also many found her personality very irritating and hence didn't feel any compulsion to vote for her.

Her 'problem' always seemed to be that she wouldn't listen to her pro and tended to go her own way. A marmite personality yes but in no way did she deserve the nastiness that was directed at her on this board, much of which seems to have been conveniently forgotten in the rush to rubbish the next hate figure on here. An Alesha/Kelly/Gethin final would have been perfect for me that year and yes I think she would have pushed Alesha further although Alesha would still have won as dancers I felt they were pretty equal. Personally I preferred her with Brendan (yes I would say that wouldn't I?-before anyone else could get it in) because I felt her personality was too big for Brian and overwhelmed him somewhat. I am really looking forward to seeing her in action with Matthew on the tour,I suspect we'll see her jive and her ASmooth (although I'd really like to see her tango again and not just because I'd kill for that dress!) |
