DLNA (Upnp) support for Humax?
machare

So the HDR is able to drag TV programmes from some distant BBC server, a feature that is probably never going to work very well on my 63db loss ADSL telephone line, and anyway uses up network capacity.

What would be nice is if the HDR could drag videos from a local Upnp (NAS) server on my home network.

Will Humax make this possible?

The benefits of storing CDs in a lossless format on a hard disk have just become apparent to me. I suspect that doing the same with video is in fact less appealing as on the whole I do not want to see the same thing more that once.

Almost certainly not.

The effort in implementing that compared to the number of people who will use it isn't worth it. Plus the fact that the HDR can't play Divx files, what's the point?

Get a PS3.

What are the benefits of storing CD's lossless apart from taking up more space?

Not exactly what you want to do but pretty close

I would have thought that was pretty obvious, I have my entire collection of CD's on a 250gb usb drive that plugs into my Denon Amp. No rooting around for that missing CD, no CD storage racks or drawers just a tiny drive.

There are no new features planned for this product, we had some hopes that UPnP might have worked on this platform but the development was never able to reach a consumer ready state.

If you use a lossless format then the sound quality from a hard disk should be the same, as the original CD.

Now that you can buy 1TB drives which can hold more than 1,000 CDs in a lossless format for (much) less than £100, this is a viable option for use in the home.

On portable devices there is still a benefit in using a compressed format so that more music can be stored.

Thanks, I vaguely recall something being mentioned before.

Maybe not - but it's something I want to do. What a great achievement ... ssssshhhh don't tell Humax but this definitely counts as a feature enhancement.

Big thank you to the author..

ive been waiting for av2hdr for a while and its seems nice and easy to use. i just selected a pixar short in hd and it converted it in less than 30 secs just gooing through my hd films on my nas and a lot of them dont seem to want to be converted.

i then had a look in my ps3 vob folder on my nas, which contains converted mkv files (remuxed into vob files) and so far they all seem to convert.....

so if you are struggling use mkv2vob (google it) before you use av2hdr.

It converted a 1080i video clip from a panny HD camcorder and it works brilliantly

I tried a 50 min long vob file and it took 5 hrs to remux and it still failed to playback properly, the sound stuttered and became so far lagged behind that after playing for about a minute the sync was out by about 45 secs

Thanks, I am wondering if that will convert Freesat programmes recorded on my Toppy so that they play on the HDR. Sometime I will give it a try.

Thanks Graham for that link and thanks also to the author.

I am having a bit of trouble with processing speed but all is down to my slow computers I think.

I have done a DVD vob file from a family disc and the picture is perfect but the sound stutters with what I would call a motor boat sound effect. The DVD was made using Nero software from a camcorders dvi files.

I have done a short file from my Technomate of Amy Whitehouses Glastonbury 2008 in HD with perfect picture and sound except for her (p*ssed) performance.

The Technomate writes files in 1.5 Gb pieces and gives them a file extension of .001, .002, .003 and so on in 1.5 Gb bits until it stops recording. To get AV2HDR to recognise the Technomates file you have to rename each 1.5 Gb file by deleting the .001 bit and put in .ts then everything works.

Once again great stuff, now where starting to fly.

Damn - yet another compelling reason to buy a Windows PC! That looks very good.

Presume you mean Freeview ones. I can't see why it won't work but my laptops bust at the moment so I can't grab a .rec file easily. Having a root round my PC to see if there's any floating about.

Postscript found an episode of wired watch this space.

Post Postscript

Extracted 6min 23 sec clip from .rec file using Video-Redo plus.

AV2HDR created the 3 required files in 35sec. Replaying now from USB pen in really good quality.

Yes, Freeview! That is clever, thank you.
