I agree! Hope they do some sort of carrying over scores arrangement so we can get 3 in the final.

I would normally agree but, given that Ali and Ricky are long way ahead of the others and no-one now looks capable of closing the gap, I would be happy to see a nail biting final between these two and hopefully a little light entertainment in the form of Jade and Ian's tango!

Petition?

The BBC?

Really?

Whatever is going to happen in the final will have already been decided (as it was with Jade, probabably by Tuesday of last week).

Sorry to say that a final between these two couples would be anything but nailbiting for me

I agree with you footygirl - I would like a 3 couple final, then we could be sure that at least one of these was down to the public

I sooooo want a 3 couple final but we're going to get another one like Series 4 where Ramps and Dawson slugged it out in a "who can dance 8 dances in half an hour" contest....

And bearing in mind we're still not on 2 dances per show I doubt the current crop will have the stamina for that!

I agree otherwise we will have a total borefest.

Please please please can we have a 3 person final, 2 people becomes glaringly obvious who will win as it will be 1 judge fave (ali and ricky) vs 1 public fave (Nat and cola).
Don't ruin a perfectly good series!!

Agree footygirl. 3 person final would be better.

I was hoping that Bruce and Tess would reveal on Saturday that Phil had been secretly rehearsing and would return (as stipulated as possible in the rules) in the place of Jade. I am now hoping Ricky G will return next Saturday. Failing that one week with no departure, to keep the numbers correct.

A 3 person final is so much better than a 2 person final. Despite the season as a whole being poor, the final of series 6 was better than that on series 5 simply because of the 3 contestants instead of 2.

Agreed Footygirl. Has there been any official statement as to how many couples will contest the final?

This was so predictable. Nearly every year someone leaves early for one reason or another. The BBC seems incapable of foregoing it's call-fest and dance off for even one week, even when it was obvious that Jade was likely to have to drop out (as an athlete, she can afford to take fewer risks than anyone with her fitness). They really need to come up with a better idea for this scenario. I reckon they should start with an additional couple, so that if nobody drops out, they potentially have a four-couple final - or they can lose two couples on the penultimate week of the series.
They way things have been going, they'd still probably lose somebody before the end, but at least the final wouldn't suffer.

IIRC correctly there were some contingencies put in place for this year about bringing back the last eliminated couple etc... However, Jade's decision to withdraw didn't come until too late and now they've got themselves into a bit of a pickle.

I'd love to see a two week semi final once we're down to four couples but whether they do something like that...

Totally agree

Ooops sorry, but 'it' told me that there was an error, and I should try posting again. So I did and this is the result

I agree, two person finals are boring. I think someone who was voted off before could come back, and not necessarily the last people to leave- the judges could choose someone they thought had potential or it could be random. But that's just my thoughts, it would never happen.

I've yet to see any actual reasons as to why a two-person final is any worse than a three person one, other than that it's "boring" (what, more boring than 3 foxtrots in a row?). I rather think that's because the actual reasoning is "because it means my favourite would be more likely to win".

I take your point, but when it's up to the public you just never know! Thinks Goughie in S3.

Perhaps they should not eliminate anyone next week as they're new dances, and either just not score them, or have a scoreboard and public vote rollover.

Hmm.

I actually think the two person finals have been less enjoyable purely because the dancers run out of steam by about the third dance, and they end up having to do about fourteen to fill the time.

I also quite like the fact that we lose one towards the end and the last two "battle it out" with their showdances - it just feels more like a final to me. *shrugs*

Well usually it means more variety as usually the couples don't all choose the same dance...

Also, the show is the same length whether it is two couples or three so when there are only two couples there, they are required to dance more dances with the result that the quality may not be as high. The dance marathons I saw from Mark/Matt and Alesha/Matt di were not tremendously thrilling. Having a third couple there would have altered the balance.

The show is broken up by a voting result which, while it may be a foregone conclusion, brings some variety.

There are three showdances to enjoy (or cringe at).

Although last year's final was a three couple one, it was a little different to how such a final would be expected to run because of the previous week's fiasco. We already knew that Tom was out in front and, although we could have guessed that anyway, it did detract from the show somewhat. I still thought it was better as a spectacle than a two couple one would have been though.

I don't think that a two-person final is boring, but I would agree with some of the other posters that the two couples have to do a lot of dances to make up the time and that can mean that the quality is poorer.

Having said that I am a Team Cola fan and I think a three-person final is the only way they'll get there, so I'm not entirely unbiased!

3 is better in theory. So it's a shame that none of the dancers other than Ali and Ricky are even close to being good enough to be in a final. If you look at the talent of past celebritys who made the final but didn't win, it makes the likes of Chris and Laila look pretty poor.

I'm no fan of 3 couple finals, for me, a final has always consisted of the best two contestants in any competition (and indeed, any sport), so I always feel that two couple finals are better - plus the only final I truly enjoyed was Matt DA vs Alesha.
