cat fleas

I realised my cat has got fleas about 2 months ago, I've been successful in treating the house, as I've had no bites for about week now, but when checking the cat with the comb I'm finding live fleas on him, I've used Bob Martin one spot, Wilkinson one spot and Johnson's powder, and a Bob Martin collar, over the last 2 months. I was just wondering how long should any of these take to work and if there is anything better I could do or buy

Ditch the Bob Martin stuff and get some frontline.

Have taken your advice and was thinking along the same lines this afternoon after checking on the net, so have gone ahead and ordered some, hopefully this will be the end of it. Thank you for your help.

You may find Frontline is not very effective, fleas have become increasingly resistant even to Frontline Combo (prescription only). My vet is running down stocks of it because so many of his clients found it no longer works.

The only product I find effective now is Advocate (prescription only). It's expensive, but it is very effective unlike the stuff you buy from pet shops.

Stronghold as a prescription works well also. Not cheap but good

I've found diatomaceous earth (DE) to be a superb treatment for cat fleas.

Was a bit sceptical about it when I first read about it, but I thought it was worth trying out for 5 or 6 quid.

It looks like a sort of light brown talc powder. I just put a little bit on a brush every week or so and brush it through, and that's it. The cat's skin condition is much better, she hardly ever scratches anymore. Job done.

Previously she used to freak out at the merest whiff of Frontline etc. I'm not sure that those chemical treatments are such a good idea in the long run - both for the health of your cat and for the health of your bank account!

This little half kilo bag of DE should last for AGES, and fleas can't develop a resistance to it.
