He does it to show the public that Dannii is insignificant to him. If he asks someone else what she was saying, it means that they aren't worthy of him really. I've seen him do it a few times!

I agree to that but what makes it worse is it is quite obvious Cheryl loves it.

I'm sorry, but there is simply no way that Cowell could not hear her, or had no care to hear her, not at the precise moment that she held the casting vote to determine if one of his acts goes home.

He suddenly developed selective hearing because she was seeking to confirm what he himself has said several times live on air - that it is a singing competition. He knew what she was getting at, and that she would use that as her criteria for sending the twins home (as if she was going to vote off her boss's act anyway).

While he's happy with that result, he has also realised that though they may not be singers the twins are potentially his biggest money maker in a bit of a dry season, so he didn't wish to be seen to be party to their downfall when another judge checked with her boss and show creator what the criteria should be. Instead he wants to parade them around as his discovery. That's also why he didn't send them home sooner when he got the chance.

So he let Dannii be the fall girl. Then if any backlash ensued, as it has, she gets it, with calls for her sacking, while he remains squeaky clean and in the $imoney as always.

I really think Simon's going a bit deaf. I noticed during one of the phone calls he also had to ask what the caller had said. And on American Idol, he was always asking "What did she/he say?" of the contestants or other judges. Maybe now he's turned 50, he should invest in a decent hearing aid?

I'd have to disagree there - I thought Joe was the preferred winner from the first show. It was never going to be Olly or Jamie (both pretty mediocre voices), and hyping up Danyl so early on suggests to me he's likely to be the fall guy. Meanwhile, Joe slides under the radar till the final few weeks, always staying out of the bottom two.

One of the things that makes me think they'd prefer a Joe victory is that it ties in nicely with the Adam Lambert promotion in the States - of all the contestants, Joe's voice is perhaps most in the style of Adam's.

Oh, come on. It had nothing to do with him having his "head in Cheryl's chest" or whatever, and everything to do with the fact the man is going a bit deaf. He's constantly "Huh?" "Can't hear?" "What?" on all his shows. Not just X-factor.

Or it could be as Ryan Seacrest says: 'Simon acts like he can't hear when he doesn't have a good response.' It's possible that Simon didn't know what to say to Dannii at that point and feigned deafness.

That's the only rational interpretation, really.

Isn't this just adding evidence that Dannii is heading for the sack?

What are peoples opinions?”

It seemed like the actions of a person that knows that they are going to be dispensed with soon.

Good on her too: she was 100% correct to ask the question & it just exposed the utter hypocrisy of General Zod.

I really do wonder if I over think this or others do.

My immediate reaction to Simon saying that was that it was his way of emphasizing the point Dannii was trying to make - she was, on the surface, exposing Simon re: his decision Lucie week - but there is nothing more than, now the show is the huge success it is and he has the audience hook line and sinker, to ensure that people now view this as a singing contest. He knows that he can't say that now with any credibility... so he used Dannii to underline the point.

If anything, with his usual use of reverse psych and manipulation, I think Simon has conspired in consolidating Dannii's postition on the judging panel... she now has a very active and credible role, unlike Cheryl.

Perception is a strange thing.
