Trying to get a straight answer

Hello.
I'm at my wits end with both TalkTalk and Tiscali.
I have a TalkTalk LLU line and i'm about 12months into my 18month contract at one property. At another property i'm just coming to the end of a Tiscali LLU contract with TV.
I'm currently moving out of the Tiscali property and into just the TalkTalk property but would like to retain Tiscali TV as it's great.
Speaking to TalkTalk about it there's nothing they can do and I just have to buy myself out of their contract.
Tiscali's website says they can take over a TalkTalk Line, but their sales dept says they can't and I have to revert the line to BT.
TalkTalk last night told me the Tiscali can only offer TV over LLU and I would have to buy myself out of my new BT contract as well.

Anyone give me a straight answer to how I transfer this?

Thanks

I tried phoning tiscali again today, and still couldn't get any straight answers. Todays questions were..
- How much is TV and Broadband but with BT doing Line Rental per month? (Told not possible)
- What line downstream rate do I need to get TV ? (Told could only answer after Broadband installed).

AAARRRRHHHH!

Hi

As far as I know you cannot have BT providing the line for TV as you need to be on their LLU service, ie leave BT completely, using tiscali's equipment from the exchange. As quoted above the easiest way to do this is join the Post Office for phone as it is contract free.

As for the TV it uses ~3mb-3.5mb of my connection to provide the service. After a few tweaks by the forum MK's giving a very stable picture. This is done using QOS (quality of service) so whilst the TV is on your internet speed is reduced to stop this affecting the tv quality. My line speed is 5mb so it leaves me roughly 2mb to play with whilst watching TV (on the non freeview channels) As soon as I turn the unit off though I have the full amount available again. So in essence you would prob need at least 3.5mb to get the tv service.

This is a rough guess based on my experience and in no way is a definitive answer

I find this thread very confusing* because I had Tiscali TV for years (starting with Homechoice) whilst having BT as my phone provider. I only got Tiscali phone including line rental when it came to my notice they were so cheap

*I do have to admit to being easily confused

huggsy is right - you'll require 3.5mb for a stable TV connection, in terms of the property your moving to, feel free to PM the number and I can check if our service available there,

Thanks for the PM - it seems as though the exchange is LLU enabled, so yes we can provide the TV service, you need to pay your contract in full (with Talk Talk), then have the line passed to BT (or the Post Office), we would then provide the TV and BB service on this line,

Excellent, so it remains a BT Line with you providing BB and TV on top. Final question I hope - do you know how long it takes from changing from TalkTalk to BT before tiscali will recognise it as a valid line?

Hi,

I guess if you are to be billed to the end of your contract with Talk Talk, then pass this line to BT, then the standard response would be 7-14days, might be worth double checking with Talk Talk however on the day you call to cancel, hope this helps,

Kind Regards

Arrrrr!
So the line reverted to BT today. Now Tiscali sales are telling me that it's not possible to get TV on my exchange.
MK_Chris.. Help! what can I do?

What exchange are you on, have you checked http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php to see if it says there it is Tiscali TV enabled?

Hi,
Yup.. i'm on Windsor (01753) exchange which says it's enabled on samknows, and MK_Chris has had my full number and agrees. I get above 3.5Mb downstream no problem so I really can't understand another sorry turn in this saga.

At the moment it seems on Tiscali's advice i've spent £70 leaving their parent company service for absolutely no reason and now have no broadband.
Very unhappy.

I'm sure MK_Chris will help you out, I see a few instances on the official Tiscali forums in that frustrated customers are at a wits end, then one of the MK's offer assistance and all gets sorted.

strange that the advisor on the phone told you it is not available, when it seems it clearly is.

A happy twist,
spoke to a sensible and knowledgable person in tiscali sales today who did manage to order tv and broadband for me, though the earliest install date is 21st - they must be busy.
Unforunately it seems that i have to pay £50 again for the tiscali+ box and £30 connection, which means moving this service has cost me £150 so far. Hardly cheap, or fair.

but at least I (nearly) have the service I want - not sure I'd bother again though.

Did you aleady have the Tiscali ox in your old place? I would assume they could just reuse that??? If not when the old one is collected (if it hasn't been already) I would ask for a credit for the value of the T+ on the bill! Bit of a cheek to ask you to pay again, especially since they are offering the box free for new customers on the web..

The Tiscali+ box should have been free: http://www.tiscali.co.uk/products/tv...ubnav-2&lid=TV

I was just looking at that. It looks as though berksbloke is being treated as an existing customer (we have to pay £50 once-off for 'eternal' rental of the box) instead of as a new one

I did have a box from the old place which they picked up a couple of weeks ago - they insisted i couldn't just reuse it.
I have asked for the £50 back but they have said it can't be done yet and I'll have to take it up with them once i've actually paid it.
I do feel really sitched up by 'The TalkTalk Group'.. nice product, but generally awful customer service.

Off topic:

I was on a forum the other day and noticed that the advert at the top was from BT saying (paraphrased) "If you're a Tiscali customer being forced to join TalkTalk, come to BT instead". I wonder if tracking cookies are responsible for "appropriate" ads, I noticed another firm seemingly following me around

@parthena
They have the ability to know what, where & how often you browse, who you are, & where you live ! Talking in an open forum about this may mean you 'dissappear' .

Not to worry though, Tiscali couldn't organise a proverbial ...
