This HDR needs a manual timer in non freesat mode ,last night I recorded 2 programes from different satellites and it worked well .
The problem is that I had to sit and wait until the programs started then press record button.
I use the antenna choice of two different cables , great to have the choice of several dish setups but this is useless if I have got to sit and press buttons to record the programes I want to watch later, it means I can't go out.
As I said in another post why have non freesat mode on a HDR and all the manual settings if I can't set a timer to record what I want to see.
If humax can't do this you would as well remove this option in the next firmware update and I will get my £20 satellite receiver out the cupboard and record to my panasonic recorder .

I seriously doubt this will be done. Humax have said it's bugfixes from now on.

Anybody remember those gadgets you could learn remote control commands and set a timer to transmit them to allow timed control of equipment. One of those might fit the bill.

Yes I had one about 10 years ago .or maybe they can write a few lines of code and save me more money

You can't tell me that it can't be done.
Give me a reason why its good to have a non freesat mode that you can't use a timer on , beats the hell out of me.
Another point I don't see the use in having iplayer when we can already record programs from the freesat epg .

Talking about iplayer, does anyone know if it will include the radio program facility too? So I can play the on demand recordings - that might be more likely to be useful to me.

I often find I listen to music as an on the spot choice. So I might not have bothered to record the programs I want to listen to at a given time.

I think I made responses about non-Freesat mode before the launch of Freesat and I think I have said it latterly as well. But for the sake of clarity:

Humax views this product as being a Freesat product (as advertised), we have, as required legally and in specification, to support non-Freesat services. However, we have chosen not to develop the system extensively because we already have our hands full with ensuring the primary function of the device is as solid as it can be. The product is not viewed from our resourcing as a non-Freesat product, there may be a difference of opinion with others aspirations but this limitation must be seen for what it is. It is a finite resourcing issue and not malice.

Further more iPlayer is about catching up with content someone may have missed. It is not uncommon to have forgotten to record something and also to be recommended to watch something that was previously broadcast. For me it has also been a source of interesting content that I might otherwise have not seen because of regional variations (interesting BBC Wales programming). It's popularity has been well proven on Virgin and the internet.

Also the MHEG updates are not just about iPlayer, they are about a range of companies I can see interested in launching services which use the IP connection and which many of us involved feel will provide great value.

I get the fact that the focus is freesat, but the manual does say that the box supports USALS (motorised dish) - however when this is enabled the box turns itself into a single tuner machine. Thats verging on dishonest.

I now understand humax has no plans to support a basic timer in non freesat mode and you have implemented non freesat mode as required legally in the specifications.
But looking at the software choices in the non freesat mode it seems you have done a lot of work having manual settings for most european satellite providers and it does seem strange that there is no basic timer .
So your answer to cut it short is , not another penny for non freesat.

The machine carries out its primary function [supply HD Freesat+] as good as any other box on the market.I think that the majority of those that have purchased a box would consider any additional Freesat functions as being a bonus.Having followed the forum for 2 years I understand the aspirations regarding non freesat+ capabilities, ie one box to do all things.How many people that have purchased a box follow the Forum and are aware of the shortcomings?

The thing people need to remember is that 99.9% of the public will buy this receiver as a freesat pvr and will not have a clue about other satellites and multi-sat.

This post has nothing to do with motorised (usals) which is a specific menu choice in itself, and one which immediately disables the second tuner.

The fact that a product does it's primary function well is no excuse for peripheral functions being shocking.

Media Player in Windows7 can pull the transponder details and quite a lot of programme schedule data for the main European satellites from the Internet.

Have you consdiered making a PVR that does much the same? That way you would be free of any restrictions that Freesat impose. Further much the same product could be sold across Europe.

Not quit true there are thousands of people tunning into other satellites ,I have been doing it for 16years. There are plenty of free to air programes in english ,french , spanish,arabic ,german , and people who have come from other coutries etc tune in to their native language on other satellites . If you have looked at what satellite magazine in the last 10 years you will see that there are plenty of alternative receivers for sale and have been ever since I can remember.
I assume that is why the bbc and freesat incuded this in there specifications as well as the directive from the eu that all receivers should have this ability to tune to other satellites unlike sky who have almost completely ignored this directive.
As I have stated about the humax HDR it should have the ability to set a timer in non freesat mode and any future box from any other manufacturer should also have this as a must, I also think its a good selling point and some freesat manufactures are and will do this , after all its not a big deal.

I do know what satellites are up there i do have a 2.4m, dish for cband and kuband

The point i was trying to make is that i think humax would think that if you could set a timer for non-freesat mode is that not alot of people will use it and i think if they added it would a cause problems or new problems for the hdr.

They have been writting software for years. I am quite sure they could overcome this as they are one of the best companies in digital broadcasting manufacture in my opinion
for what thats worth,and the Hdr is an excellent machine and it offers more than most at the moment in usability , except for a timer in non freesat mode,oh I've said it again oops.

..or for one's 9200T to spontaneously forget that it's supposed to be recording the series.

It is a cost benefit equation, the relative benefit to Humax to develop the non-Freesat mode is *very* limited. Others in the market might find that they can sell their specialist boxes which can support a wide range of multi-satellite features and in fact the Humax iCord HD and iCord HD+ can both support multi-satellite quite well.

Anything is possible, however during the development of the software for Freesat it was discussed about the effort required to maintain the full PVR functionality for non-Freesat, while still supporting Freesat, and it could not be justified in sales. Yes, there are a fair few people who use motorised dishes and multi-satellite installations, however the market demand isn't high enough for us to support all the functions in the one product. There are boxes for satellite enthusiasts and there are boxes for general use; we could have supported much less functionality and perhaps it would have meant less expectation, because I know some people like the product and wish it could do everything.

In other words from bob is you want a timer for non-freesat mode you will not get it on the HDR and you should buy another multi-sat PVR i.e the icord to use a timer for non-freesat use
