I think virtually everyone is agreed that with the update we Humax users have a really excellent piece of equipment. There are, however, a few niggling bugs outstanding and as Humax have said that they may do some more bug fixes it might be an idea if we listed the remaining minor bugs. There's not much point in adding the failure to record after p/c as it's already been stated that that is not minor. Also it has already been stated that non Freesat mode features are not on the list for enhancement as that is not what the box was sold for.

Starting off:

1) When progress bar is on screen some functions (for example, subtitle ) yield a 'PUF' symbol rather than just dismissing the progress bar.

2) When (1) happens the timer for the progress bar is reset so that it stays on the screen even longer.

3) The progress bar does not honour the 'how long should information stay on the screen' setting.

4) Fast forward and reverse are missing an 8x and speed.

5) Subtitles are not 'one touch'. There's no real point in having the Teletext option as (a) it doesn't work and (b) isn't Teletext being phased out? If there is really a need to select from different languages (I've never seen any option other than English) it should only be invoked if there is more than one language in the source stream.

6) On some programmes subtitles do not clear resulting in a later subtitle partially overwriting an earlier one. Whilst this may be a fault in the programme stream it's one that could be easily mitigated by the box (I've never seen the same behaviour from other digital boxes).

None of the above would be more than trivial to sort out.

Well only Humax could answer that - but I think most of us would regard these as relatively very trivial issues

Actually (ignoring the fact that it wasn't a question ), any competent programmer could easily answer that.


Yes, that's why I described them as 'niggling', and 'minor'.

They are, however, the sort of bugs that do leave the box looking a little amateurish when they crop up so it would be nice if Humax fixed them.

Everything has something that someone is not happy with. Whether its a bug is something else.

There are still a few of them left too - but just now I can't be bothered to list them.

OTOH...Let's start though with the minor issue of the abrupt termination of viewing when you are pleasantly watching something and have had the temerity to press pause before the end of the program. Then suddenly you wonder what on earth has happened when the program fast forwards to the end or into the next program....

or.. the powercut issue..

and there are more.. however, mustn't grumble, the update has definitely made the machine much more usable and nicer to use.

Well, it's very simple, really; it's a bug when something doesn't work properly.


Humax have said they may fix some more bugs so go for it.

In the world of biking Ducatis to normal people have some bugs but to the majority of owners its called character and what makes them so pleasant.

I have been lucky and the HDR has forefulled what I wanted out of it. The recent firmware update has made a couple of things easier. I have no real issues and put down some of its traits simply as the character of the machine.

SKY+ was the same. I had no real issues with it other than the paying for something I wasn't utilising to the full.

Even before the update I said, on more than one occasion (words to the effect) that even if the Humax were never updated I would not have considered it a bad purchase - far from it.

It would, nonetheless, be nice if a couple of the rough edges were sanded smooth in a future update. It won't be the end of the earth if they're not - it would just be nice.

Listing those we notice is so that if Humax do decide to do a further 'bug-fix' update they are available in one place (as far as this site goes). These are not here for the purpose of complaint.

I would suggest that any issues are highlighted directly to Humax and that a reference is sought to track.

I don't think there's any need to keep nagging them.

If they decide to sort out a few more niggles the information is here (as well as on other sites) and if they don't, no harm done.

Personally I was unaware of any bugs prior to the update. However since then I have experienced many problems such as it is not possible to watch ITV HD and record another programme at the same time; or when recording BBC 1 half the other channels cannot be viewed including channel 4 or 5.

Have you checked your cabling?

It sounds as if the feed from one of the LNB's has come adrift.

These are definitely not faults that were introduced by the update.

Yes, in fact, wasn't one of the fixes in the update to correctly display the signal strength from both tuners?

That as Tern says is not down to the update. The new firmware correctly interprets the individual tuner inputs. What signal strength and quality does diagnostics give you for both tuners.

Also enter the setup menu and press RED GREEN YELLOW BLUE GREEN YELLOW BLUE in succession. Check from the menu that comes up that Antenna Setting is Fixed Antenna and Connection type is Two Cables (same)

I would expect them to be working to a list of complaint that are raised by their customer support either raised from telephone reports or customer service e-mails. This allows it to be tracked through to resolution. Sometimes you will find companys do have a exec reporting for high level managers etc who experince difficulties.

As for Humax checking the forums for issues, I would expect them to compare what they see on forums to what compliants are being fed via the correct channels.


So if you don't report the issue you can't really expect it to be reasonably resolved. Unless someone else reported it.
