Would Ali get an unfair advantage if she gets a week off when Laila had to dance on?

Bhoy – are you with me so far? If you’re lost already stop reading and post a request to have that first line explained more fully.

2. If you choose not to dance because of a death in the family (Kelly Brooks), insanely intrusive press (John Sargent) or pain (as Laila could have done after spraining her ankle) you are out of the competition.

Bhoy, how’s it going? Are you still with me? That’s two ideas you’ve had to absorb. Concentrate now: here’s comes a third one.

3. If a doctor says you are not medically fit (Jimmy Tarbuck, Jade Johnson) you are forbidden to dance. You can have one week’s grace - passing through to the next round. This is known as a bye.

Bhoy, I’m rooting for you here. That was the bit that seems to pass through your brain without sticking. I hope it’s snagged onto something on the way past this time.

4. After one week’s grace, if the docs say you are still unfit to dance, you are out.

Bhoy, if you’re still holding all of this in your head all at once, find someone and share a high five. You deserve it, buddy. Steep learning curve for you. One more idea and you’ll be right here in Rocket Science City with the rest of us.

5. The provision of byes stops at the quarter-finals.

Bhoy, if all the words are making your head hurt, just read the bits in bold. You could even draw them on a piece of paper and put arrows in. All the best with it.”

Laila didn't have to dance on .. she chose too. It was a rumba too, hardly the most energetic of dances and she didn't complete it (Ali did far more when she danced her paso twice with a worse injury).

Considering the amount of dancing she did .. and the scores she got .. you could say that Laila got a bye to the next round herself .. she certainly didn't do any dancing worth voting for.

Except you're not really debating, are you? You post something controversial that the majority of posters disagree with. You let everyone give their reasons for disagreeing with you, or let them get annoyed for having to argue the same points repeatedly, and then you post something like "I'm just asking a question!" without giving any sort of counter-argument.

When you said in another thread it was "just" that Jade had left the competition and that if she'd won after having a bye week it would have been "tainted", I gave you several arguments against this. You then didn't comment again.

Now many posters want to know why you have no compassion for injured celebrities, and disagree with the ruling on bye weeks.

So...why would you rather throw someone off the show, rather than give them a bit of recovery time? The rules apply to everyone, and most people seem to think this arrangement is fair. Straight answer please. And try not to compare Strictly with the Olympics as you have done previously - they're not the same.

Aw, thanks Olive, Mimi, Gamestats and AgentK.

And I know, Tonydancer, I know. But I wasn't getting sucked into the game (not sure Bhoy got that, mind you; his response was seriously triumphant with the bold caps and the laughing - bless!). I was just trying to put everything so straightforwardly that he'd be forced out of any more posturing.

And it worked! Bhoy admitted he knows the rules and just doesn't like them.

Here's two more, Bhoy. These are in the area of general life skills.

1. You either get to act dumb or you get to flounce about when people treat you as if you're dumb. You don't get to do both.

2. Pretending you don't understand something you don't like isn't a legitimate method of arguing. It annoys people and weakens your point.

Now, I'm going to go round my house and find a nice soft wall in case I need it later.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Because Bhoy has / had a bet on Craig, Laila and (I think) Chris reaching the final.

No other reason - nowt to do with dancing or fairness or injury.

Any other celeb who may get in the way of his chosen ones will get the Bhoy treatment.

FFS everyone, please stop giving Bhoy the oxygen of publicity that he craves.

In your mind, consider this thread locked. We'll all, except one person, feel so much better about life.

You're right, Tonydancer. You're obviously a stronger person than me and I hope the fact that someone registered - after years of lurking - to respond to one of Bhoy's debate-a-likes isn't going to send *you* to the wall forehead first.

Actually, Kelly did have the chance to come back the following week but declined.

I know it doesnt sound serious but it can be very painful and take a while to heal.

I cant pretend to know an awful lot about MRI results of bruised bone as I am not a radiologist, however, I can imagine the MRI (which is excellent at showing bones and similar tissue) will show that the bones she has bruised have a different shading due to the blood in the injury. Radiologists grade images by a priniciple giving different matter a different numerical number depending on its appearance, so the blood would have a characteristic appearance on the MRI. The MRI would also have definately given a clear image of any fracture or ligament tear.
”

Doctors view a situation dispassionately from books and pooled medical experience. The patient with a broken body knows about it from the inside. Some doctors will not listen to the patient, not in the least knocking the bolognaise which happens to be my favourite.

When injured the body protects itself by flooding the area with fluid for repair, so that overreacting healing and swelliing within the confined space of a foot can cause more pain than the injury itself. I am dead against Ali dancing when her body is not up to it.

I am however opposed to anybody getting an unconditional bye. Matt di Angelo performed 2 meltdown dances but was voted through. Laila performed a non-dance but was voted through. Some unkind person might say Craig Kelly made a profession of non-dances after which he was voted through. This is in the gift of the electorate with well-established precedents. The rules provide for it, half on judges marks, half on phone votes.

To be consistent and even-handed, Kate, Letitia (dancing with a temperature of 100), Laila, Jade, Ali should all have been allowed a non-dance for one week, marked zero by judges but relying on and hoping for the public to vote them through (i.e. voted clear of the bottom 2) if the public so wish. If the injured party finishes up in the bottom two, then the other uninjured couple should still dance. The injured couple will not get off their chairs and so will be evicted by the judges for non-performance, just like a boxer failing to answer the bell.

The bye as it now stands is a total exemption in the gift of the BBC disenfranchising the judges and the electorate. I suggest that in all such situations the judges should continue to mark (zero) and the public should continue to vote. This is a marking and voting competition.

Does anyone actually know for definite when the "quarter-finals" are technically deemed to be, now that one person has already dropped out?
And when you say "stops at the quarter-finals", is that before or after them? Thanks...

First, sorry about making that mistake re. Kelly Brook. I didn't know she could have come back.

Next, I don't know if at means before or after. Good question. Anyone? Could Ali get into the QFs on a bye?

So, a swift descent into cluelessness from my first post, eh?

But I got a thumbs up from Dr Bol before it all went wrong.

In the absence of definitions provided by the inarticulate BBC, I am going to suggest the quarter-finals are by definition 2 Saturdays before the Final Saturday, regardless of the number of walking wounded.

"Stops at the quarter-finals" is even more ambiguous. I would suggest the emphasis is on the word STOPS rather than the word QUARTER-FINALS, i.e. the point of the communication is the finality of the word STOPS rather than the timing of stopping, before or after a point in time. The emphasis is not about what is ongoing before or after. Therefore the unspoken initimation is that at the appointed time said activity is not ongoing, i.e. stopped. Not when it stopped, mainly overwhelming nuance that at the time quietly mentioned the condition heavily emphasised is STOP, not go (for the last time).

Yes, STOP in the sense of not happening at all,
not in the sense of happening for the last time.

I would say midflight would make a conscientious solicitor. Heelleader would make a good barrister (please can I have a dance? ). No I am not the judge, that job has already been taken, at £7,000 a night.

Thanks, Soulmate.

I'm not a barrister but it's not the first time someone's brought it up. Sometimes "would make a good barrister" is pronounced "could talk the leg off a table" but it's much the same thing, right?

And thanks for the welcome Starpuss, SheShe and Tissy.

Oh man, I work at home freelance and I've resisted this for soooo long. You people are too warm and fuzzy and SCD is just too interesting. I might have to disable my internet connection if I'm ever going to get any more work done.

Oh Lordy, it's a slippery slope you're on - I hope you realise that.

I work at home, self employed, too. Prepare yourself for a lean old winter, and a New Year devoted to researching a thousand and one things to do with lentils. That's a tip, by the way - good method of keeping yourself alive when you realise you've earned next to nowt for the duration of SCD.

You might like to brush up on your darning, too.
